so how has The One done so far?

Date January 24, 2009

it’s only been six days since the immaculate inauguration of The One and he has been very busy!

is there hope and change in the air? some will say many of his actions detailed below give us a big ^5 from the global public relations nags in this country, which in turn, will surely make the world love us again. um, won’t they?

  • the first thing bo did was sign a proclamation declaring January 20, 2009, ‘worship me day’ a ‘national day of renewal and reconciliation.’ heh. i feel like an attempt to reconcile with me was made don’t you? pfffft.
  • he signed an executive order putting a temporary halt to gitmo terrorist trials.
  • he signed an executive order closing guantanamo bay detention center (note the spelling sophia), but has no idea where to put these jihadis who have vowed to kill us all.
  • he signed an executive order closing the cia super secret ‘black sites’ and in the process of doing so, he told the whole freakin world how many there were, which was, you know, a secret.
  • he blatantly blew off medal of honor recipients while hip hopping with his thug and celebutard buddies.
  • he greviously reversed the policy which had previously stopped federal money from being used for abortions, including abortions around the world, radically and immediately increasing the killing of preborn babies.
  • his so-called ‘new era of bipartisanship’ which he had promised would be part of his hopeful administration, isn’t going so well. has he nominated a Republican for anything yet? nope.
  • he acted stupid with the media who finally asked a tough question.
    - he actually sided with ‘warmonger’ president bush on FISA - the warrantless wiretaps.
  • he bombed pakistan - air-raiding villages & killing innocent civilians - something he complained loudly about during the campaign. this as you would imagine, caused moonbat heads to explode everywhere. ew. what a mess.
  • tried to do a shut down a private citizen engaged in exercising free speech - something he has done before.
  • he fed something to Byrd and Kennedy that sent them to the hospital. ok, so it wasn’t The One’s fault..or was it? :insert creepy sounds here:
  • he refused access to press photographers to take first oval office photos.
  • he called Mahmoud Abbas for his first foreign call as president. outrageous.
  • he tightened the rules on lobbyists in his administration, then blew them off and hired a lobbyist. ‘do what i say but not what i do because i have an obvious lobbist problem!’
  • and finally, to make it his presidency all fresh and techy, he has received a ’special blackberry’ which allow him to continue his addiction.

his proposed trillion dollar boondoggle he calls his economic stimulus package is filled with pork and patently redistribution yet, it too, will most likely work it’s way through the congress to his desk for signature.

elections have consequences - we will be living this for a long time to come.

This post is load of STEAMING HOT CRAP. None of this is a surprise. Barack promised all of it. Oh so f’in what if he gets a blackberry. You should be ashamed of yourself for this. It demeans 65 million of us who wanted these things done and voted him in to make sure it was. I am not wild about the Pakistan issue. It is a concern but I bet it has everything to do with Gates being left in there. And the same commanders on the ground. I will bet that Gates is gone soon. He should have never been retained.

Also take an economics class before you comment on the stimulus package. I bet you were first in line to cash your check from Shrub. You are also lying about the press photo op. The administration provided pictures which happens with every administration.

And could you get any more stupid on bi-partisanship? That was referring to working with republican members of congress. It had nothing to do with putting a f’in one on the cabinet! Isn’t Gates a republican? That is the problem.

That hell hole in Cuba is finally closing and it can’t close soon enough for me. The only problem is how do we keep things like what happened at Abu Graib from happening in U. S. Prisons with these people who obviously need human rights provided. I don’t have the confidence that if they are moved to military prisons, that the same could not happen. They are in our custody, they need protection. I just hope they don’t need protection from us. They have languished there long enough.

    DON’T BE SO STUPID.

And by the way, your endless mocking of the president of the United States is really disrespectful from such a person who displays such patriotism. Think about it.

  3. Ted said:

Boy Kev, the anger, hatred, and lies you spew is really over the top. I always get a good laugh out of whackos like you. Do it again.

BTW, the left spent 8 years telling us that dissent was patriotic. Or did that only apply when Bush was in office?

    Get over it.

Another perfect example of being a moonbat and having an abysmal collapse between one ears.
Anyone with the slightest knowledge of our military protocol knows that Gates could not of done so without first the approval of the CIC.
As you said, and painted your dumb a$$ into a corner in doing so, Obama is doing what he promised he would do which was to bomb Pakistan. In addition he said he would negotiate with our enemies with no pre conditions. His call to Abbas has made it clear that he will carry out that promise also.

“Also take an economics class before you comment on the stimulus package. I bet you were first in line to cash your check from Shrub.”

I myself have no problem cashing a check that was my money to start with.
Unfortunately you don’t realize it or you support thievery, but much of the monies Obama will be shipping out simply go to those that don’t deserve it seeing as how they don’t even pay taxes.

” You are also lying about the press photo op. The administration provided pictures which happens with every administration.”

    NO !!!
    You are the liar.

“The Associated Press, Reuters and Agence France-Presse refused to distribute photos taken by the White House of the new president on his first day in the Oval Office because of the dispute. Still photographers were also not given access to Obama’s do-over oath of office administered Wednesday night by Chief Justice John Roberts and an economics meeting on Thursday. ”

The only photos distributed were taken by the administrations White house photographers. Any other news organizations were shut out.
That was Kate’s claim, and its true.

“And could you get any more stupid on bi-partisanship? ”

How you possibly ever know what bi-partisanship looks like ?

“That hell hole in Cuba is finally closing.”

If you believe that crap then you probably own a few bridges.

Research the matter and you’ll discover that Obama is faced with the same set of problems that Bush had last week or two years ago. Bush has had plans to close Gitmo for years right now but has been face with the same conundrum that Obama faces.
Signing that executive order was just little stroke job to keep you and the code pink leftist radicals at bay for a while.

Why don’t you try getting a little deeper into the details and intricacies of these matters before you speak out from between your glutes ?

Bitterness gets you no where. The election is over. He is our President. You need to hope and pray he succeeds so that our country can rebound from the Bush years and get us back economically and relationally with other countries. Your mocking does seem annoying. Maybe if you turned off talk radio, you might loose some of your anger and bitterness and move forward.

  6. Ted said:

Thanks garden_chick, I love your projection. There’s no way anyone opposed to BHO could even get in the same neighborhood of hatred, mocking, anger, and bitterness you and your ilk have shown towards Bush in the last 8 years, so don’t even try to go there. You show me where you were calling out the “Bush is Hitler” nuts and maybe we’ll talk. Something tells me you didn’t do that.

No way do I hope he succeeds given his current stated agenda. For what reason would I want to wish my fellow citizens to live in an impotent socialist state?

kevin: every one of bo’s ‘action items’ listed has a link to support my blog post.

frankly i don’t expect you to agree with any of my posts. and you think they are too mocking? i have written countless posts about the left — your buddies — and their chronic, rabid bush derangement syndrome for president bush and his administration, friends, family, house, dog, et al.

and kev? at least i am not running into a senate hearing like a screaming banshee with faux blood on my hands and sticking them in hillary’s face or i am not singing goodbye to an outgoing president who gave 8 long hard years of his life in service to this country, in front of the whole damn planet.

barack obama did NOT attend the american legion Medal of Honor Inaugural Ball. i realize that its a big viral war out there on this topic, but here’s the truth: your buddy didn’t attend. he didn’t go kevin. he attended for a few minutes the Commander in Chief ball which was a different ball Kevin. in attendance were some, a few, of the Medal of Honor people. he danced with his bitter wife, danced with a couple of carefully chosen military folks, and then he left.

and kevin i am not a liar, i don’t need bodyguards, and i am not a neophyte. i wonder if you talk this way in your real life with people who you disagree with? it’s just a blog kevin.

  10. micky said:

    Hey Kevin !
I dont know what the hell your point is.
I went to the link you supplied and even the author admits that Obama did not attend the ball.
In reading further it becomes clear that even the author does not know the exact reason for Obama not attending but instead only offers a few plausible scenarios based on speculation, opinion and the few people he spoke to.

    Scott Isaacs:
“The most likely reason that President Obama did not go to the “Salute to Heroes” inaugural ball is because it was held in the Renaissance Hotel which consists of 16 floors. There was an event called the “Illinois Party - Presidential Event” …”

In reading the article it became aparent to even this idiot that Obama had a wide variety of options and seemed to think that attending this ball in particular was not of any priority.

    Try again.
    ——————————————————————————————

Kate doesnt need body guards, thats not why we come here.
We come here for entertainment value only because Kate succeeds in drawing the moonbats that give us all more bang for our buck.

He has only been there for a little less than a week, and already his followers are so insecure they feel compelled to try and shout down and confront those who are opposed to him, using angry and hateful tones, and wishing death upon anyone who doesn’t agree with you. Their lack of confidence in their lord and savior is showing.

  18. micky said:

Much like addicts, when they realize that they’ve got a problem on their hands they go into a rage of self pity, taking it out on others around them because they cant understand “why me” ?
This is the only reason I can come up with why we see so much anger amongst a population that should be so happy they would be crapping down their legs.
Its hard to come to the realization, its not even been a week, and your lovely idol is turning out not be what you all expected.
These things take a while to settle in. Once you all start seeing that he’s already backed out on or flipped on a majority of his “major” commitments only then will you…

STOP ASKING US TO COME TOGETHER !!!

    Chitown.
Are you aware of what has happened in our past when a population is subjected to force ? Trust me bro, that’s the last thing you want happening. I almost wish someone would try it just so we could get this matter of incompetence out of the way in a more expeditious manner instead of watching America try to wade its way out of quicksand with no life line.

    MVP_GA

I’ll make you a deal. You shut the f*ck up and I’ll get along with you also, fair enough ?
If you remember correctly, during Bush’s term while you moonbats were all bitching till you were blue in the face we neither asked you to get along with us or shut up because you really had nothing to offer that we wanted.

What limited thought process has led you to believe that the two choices you have offered us are the only two out there ?
I will support Obama if I believe he is doing the right thing. I do not want to see him fail at the expense of American lives.
But make no mistake about it, I do want him to fail in areas that will represent what a failure liberalism is so we can get this over with. And I will exercise my right as an American to dissent and bring that failure about quicker if its within my power.
If you actually think that almost half the country is going to shut up and just come along for the ride after 8 years of abuse at the hands of people like you then we have an explanation as to why so many people could vote for such an unqualified candidate.
Remember, Obama did not win because he was so great. He won because the right was complacent along with a media that would simply not tell the truth.
he did not win because he was a better choice than McCain. He won because he was a better choice than Bush.
You guys were dumb enough to think that he was actually running against Bush.
Your persistent hatred for the man combined with Obamas Bush bashing and making McCain out to be Bush placed a subliminal message in all your moonbat heads to go ahead and vote “against” McCain (representative of Bush), and not really “for” Obama.
You all fell for it hook line and sinker.

Maybe you all are starting to realize that Obama is not all that and that is why we see so many sore winners ?

    Morpheus.
    Was your vote legal ?

I love reading all the posts telling us “rightwingers” to get on board. For 8 years we heard nothing but profanity, hatred, and demands for impeachment, but now that Obama is our president we need to come together for the good of the country.

I’ve never seen such hypocrisy and ignorance in all my life.

Poor Kevin, he still managed to blame the attacks in Pakistan on a Republican, even though no such operations can be conducted without the Obamessiah knowing about it. Keep your head in the sand Kevin, why change after all this time?

Garden chick? If you want bitterness look at the democrats/liberals attempts to tear down President Bush and our government because they were pissed that Al Gore lost in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. They were the very definition of bitterness. For the last 8 years we’ve been told that dissent is “patriotic”, yet suddenly with the election of “The One”, dissent is hatred and bitterness. How sad for you. I, as well as many others, will continue to criticize Obama as much as we want. It’s one of those pesky little rights in the Constitution that we all have, so expect us to use it.

chitown, that was one of the funniest posts I’ve read yet, you might even have trumped Kevin, if that’s possible. “choice or by force”, isn’t it interesting that you would threaten force against fellow Americans who simply disagree with Obama, but you and your brethren won’t stand up to terrorists who are plotting our destruction. Pretty pathetic. I wouldn’t count on that “force” either, from near as I can tell, we have all the guns and you have all the lawyers and paperwork. Simple arithmetic, wouldn’t you say?

Morpheus, you mastery of the English language is quite impressive! We all look forward to your next post with great eagerness. Usually, one must go to a bowling alley and listen in on a conversation between 12 year olds to hear such intelligent points. Grow up, or get away from your parents computer, either one will do.

  22. Ken said:

Oh, and Kevin, your link provided a letter that confirmed that Obama was NOT at that ball for medal of honor winners.

You make it too easy, Kevin. LOL!!!

  23. micky said:

Really , the venom that the left has spewed in the last 8 years and even up until after Obama won should be reason enough to understand that they don’t know the difference between dissent, deliberate sabotage and lying.

If anyone is executing revenge right now its the rabid moonbats that should be happy but instead are running all over the blogosphere hurling insults and still blaming Bush for Obamas difficulties.
I don’t even want to get into the blind retaliation we see going on in congress and some of the policies Obama is trying to push thru.
Pelosi and Reid are so high on the opportunities for revenge right now I swear they’re probably drooling at the thought of it.

Are they doing it to better their country, or satisfy an itch ? That’s what makes the difference.

I do revenge for simple reason that it informs you to not ever do again what you did to me so that the problem does not arise again. Sitting down at the table to work out an agreement is something totally different.
Its how we retaliate, its how we defend ourselves, its what people do to stop further wrong doing.
    We all do it.
So I suggest you liberals get off your high horse before you look any more hypocritical than you already do..

    Yes, it is “payback time”

Anyone with any sense of objectivity would realize that this is what’s in order for anyone who believes in their position.
Will it anger the opposition to retaliate ?
Yes, I hope so, that’s the point.
To keep going until the best man wins. Its called fighting for what you believe in until the opposition either submits or takes side with you.

It was those on the left who decided to change the meaning of blind freaking hatred to dissent.
I think that would be the major point here .
No one of any intelligence ever said that voicing an opinion or concern was unpatriotic.
But to make up lies and accusations about Bush that are un-provable and proven false as so many others have so often done is not dissent. Its treasonous.
    Its evil. Learn the difference.

    Lets put it this way.
The analogy in reference to Bush would go like this.

If someone were to run around the country telling everyone that I was a child molester with no proof that any such thing was true all that person is doing is subjecting me to a death sentence if that info ever got into the wrong ears.
I would come back at that person with a ton of sh*t that they would probably never recover from.
Where I come from, you talk sh*t about someone and cant back it up, you’re toast.
He is not doing anything to better his country, he is just performing an act of “vindictive” vengeance that serves no purpose to bring awareness to the real problems at stake.
The vicious left is just carrying out a personal vendetta that serves no purpose but satisfy bloodlust.
    Its is not dissent.

    ————————-
Yea Ken, I threw that in Kevins face also up above.
We haven’t heard from him since, have we ?
As a matter of fact, none of these little turd tossers have come back, have they ?

And it’s all because they are afraid. Afraid that a black man with new ideas, a new way of doing things, a charm and a way that causes most of us to want to follow, will actually come into the presidency and make good things happen.

You are really idiots. You like to accuse peole who get their information from left sources as you get them from right sources as the thugs. You all are just stuck. on. stupid.

“And frankly I agree with someone above who said why does Barack need to go to 2 balls with the same people? Seems dumb to me and entirely inefficient.”

Yet another LARGE point in which we disagree. Where Obama and the left like to use the military as props when they are trying to prove they are not anti-military, Republicans genuinely care and respect our military. You people on this blog are really in need of serious help. It is almost like you are becoming frenzied or something! President Obama was duly elected by this country. GET OVER IT PEOPLE! I am not sure what you think is so bad. Is your life radically different today then it was last week when Bush was in office? MOVE ON. You people are a stumbling block to so many things in this country. We could be so much more unified if you would quit being so damn backward in every thing.

Eight years of hearing “Bushitler” and “He lied” and “He’s spying on citizens” and “He’s torturing prisoners” and “He’s destroying the Constitution” and suddenly now it’s “BO’s being duly elected. Let’s come together.” We heard for eight years that dissent was patriotic and that the left was only exercising their right to free speech, and now we hear “you people are a stumbling block.”

Amazing how the left’s rhetoric has changed. It also shows the glaring two-faced nature of the left. Equal rights are only for people who share their beliefs.

LOl!! Such arrogance as well as ignorance. As has already been noted, Fran, we have been listening to the left rant and rave for 8 years. Where was your “MOVE ON” attitude then?! Our life isn’t any different yet, but we can see the writing on the wall. Obama is using the current economic crisis to pass a massive stimulus package that is overflowing with pork for the dems special interests.

Can anyone tell me what millions of dollars in contraceptives is going to do for the economy? How about billions towards far left organizations like ACORN that helped Obama get elected? Nothing suspicious there, folks, keep moving.

In other words, Fran, no we will not be silent. We had to listen to the Bush haters ignorant laced rants for 8 years, we have every right to voice our opposition to what we see as an economic plan that will create more government dependence.

    Deal with it.

You are serious, aren’t you ?

“your life radically different today then it was last week when Bush was in office? ”

The point is that if Obama is given time and opportunity we very well could be living in a socialist state within a year or two.
The next thing in some minds would be to ask themselves how long it would take to return to a capitalistic society after such a thing were to happen.
If you study history you’ll notice that when socialism fails the countries who adapted it have collapsed and failed as well and usually end up committed to ideals and methods that go against the grain of what America stands for..
So returning to capitalism after an Obama term may not be possible until we have suffered unnecessarily for God knows how long.

You seem to approach this as if were just an election for freaking homecoming queen or something of some simple nature when you say “I am not sure what you think is so bad.”
You may see things from liberal perspective. But in order to appreciate what you think your party has to offer you need to understand what the opposition offers also in order to gain true perspective.
It seems you are oblivious to what conservatism stands for otherwise you would be able to at least relate to our concerns.
I’m a recovering dem with 15 years of conservatism under my belt, a die hard product of the 60s that couldn’t take always feeling like a victim and always finding myself dependant on the government. I studied both ideologies and decided this is where I want to be. Since then life has been great. I wont go into my personal wealth to any real detail, or the quality of my life but I’ll say that everything has improved dramatically.
    I know what I’m missing.
    It sounds like you don’t.

What is this “President Obama was duly elected by this country so get over it” silliness? Are someone out there claiming otherwise? If one on this board were claiming the 2008 election was stolen then you might have made a point. As it stands, it’s a massive fail.

Hate to burst your bubble, Fran, but I have no desire to be unified with those who want to do the wrong thing. The biggest difference you’ll see is that we as conservatives won’t be making mindless claims, like the election was stolen; or “Obama lied, people died” (unless we do it just for fun); or claiming that some secret underground gov’t was actually running the show; or that any Bin Laden tapes that surface is being produced on some back lot in Hollywood by the administration in order to try and keep the masses in line with fear, fear, fear; or that BHO is going to implement martial law (or as most libs spell it, “marshall law”) in order to retain power; or that FEMA is building re-education camps in which to round up all those opposed to BHO; or any number of the other crazy ideas that have been floated and promoted by high ranking Dem/libs for the past 8 years.

And frankly I agree with someone above who said why does Barack need to go to 2 balls with the same people? Seems dumb to me and entirely inefficient.

I’m quite certain there were different attendees at those balls. It does not make their service and sacrifices in this country any less significant and it certainly isn’t dumb to make a gesture to them by making an appearance. They were there to celebrate right along with him, remember? And who cares about efficiency when Barack Obama made history?!! Didn’t you get the memo?!! Michelle was proud, dang it. They had a REAL reason to celebrate, except not with ALL those military attendees. Just a few of those medal of honor recipients was efficient. Any more than that would have been, well you know, dumb. (eye roll)

And for the record, I don’t believe for one second that if there had been a choice between a HuffPo ball and a DailyKos ball, that Kevin would have said it was dumb and inefficient to only attend one of them.

Kevin, let’s hear about all the patriotic things you did for the last 8 years to unite this country. Let me see where you supported President Bush and his administration in ANY of his endeavors. Indeed it is important for us to know any and all of the Bush administration policies you supported, the bills he signed and the many ways you bragged about those to your friends and family with such pride. I know eight years was a long time, so I’m certain your list will be lengthy, right?

Oh and while you’re at it, please list the long list of economic credentials you have in order to be an expert on stimulus packages and other parts of our economic infrastructure.

Kevin, one more thing, please list all the non-partisan, credentialed, unbiased sources you read daily so we will know why we are all so “stupid” but you are the only educated and brilliant one among us. Enlighten us, please. :)

Kate, regarding the nomination of Republicans to cabinet positions, Ray LaHood was nominated as the Transportation Secretary. I have seen LaHood described as a moderate Republican and as a former Republican, so I’m not sure what his political party affiliation is at the moment. Maybe even LaHood is confused. LOL

They are in our custody, they need protection. I just hope they don’t need protection from us. They have languished there long enough.

Hey there, glad I found this post.

A lot of unnecessary vitriol, but both sides are making some good points. It’s a contest of ideas, isn’t it? And many of us take our kids’ little league games much too seriously.

How’s the president doing so far? (No need to use the sarcastic epithet “annointed one.” ) Poor choice of Treasure secretary. Bad ethics. Good choice for Secretary of State (if Hillary steps out of line, she’s fired and her political career’s over…no safety net). Good choice with Gates.

No big deal with the economic stimulus package, either. The outgoing president gave a big parting gift to his loyal followers and the new president is giving a big thank you gift to his supporters. No big deal. Business as usual.

Closing Guantanimo? Not a bad idea if you’re a strict constructionist who values habeas corpus as much as the right to be silent. And we had to figure out a legal way to deal with these detainees., anyway. Why not make an announcement that the problem will be solved in a year or you (read attorney general, e.g.) will be looking for a job.

Reallocating troops from Iraq to Afghanistan? Good idea. Sitting on his ands during the Israel/Gaza conflict. A good idea, too. Appointing George Mitchell peace envoy to the region. A good patient negotiator with a track record of success (remember Ireland?).

Freedom of choice? The majority of Americans support Roe v. Wade. A simple political decision.

    The rest is just noise.

It’s kind of fun having a pragmatist in the White House rather than an ideologue, don’t you think?

Relax. He’s only been in office seven days. There’ll be plenty of time for him to make mistakes that really matter.

  60. Ken said:

“Closing Guantanimo? Not a bad idea if you’re a strict constructionist who values habeas corpus as much as the right to be silent.”

Yeah, I guess the 12 people that were blown to pieces after being attacked by a former Gitmo detainee are very happy that their murderer was being afforded the same rights as shoplifters in the U.S.

    http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/01/gitmo-detainee-praises-allah-in-tape.html

“Abdallah Ali al-Ajmi was transferred back to his home country of Kuwait after his release from Guantanamo in 2005. Last April he blew himself up in a homicide attack that killed 12 people in Mosul, Iraq.”

With results like this, its gotta be a winning idea!!!!

  61. The other Brian said:

Well, first of all, Ken, we hold these truths to be self evident that all men (not just Americans) are endowed with certain unalienable rights. These come from the creator, not our government. Our government is just the protector of these rights. If you have issues with that, have a discussion with John Locke and Thomas Jefferson. These are the philosophical underpinnings of our democracy. You compromise this first premise and the raison d’etre the American government dissolves.

That said, the implementation of justice is imperfect. Guilty men go free and innocent men are put to death. But unless we offer a legal process for finding justice, however imperfect, we’re just being arbitrary.

So what it boils down to is an ethical question. Would you rather see an innocent man executed or a guilty man go free? I believe in the rule of law, i.e., a man is innocent until proven guilty.

I do wonder, though, how al Amji was released. Lack of information? Bureaucratic confusion? Or was it that a half dozen years of detention without trial created the resentment that created a terrorist?

How about returning to our beliefs and ideals?

  62. LeeAnn said:

WOW 61 now 62 comments on this thread!! How cool for you Kate.
The other Brian, when your man that is innocent until proven guilty is in Guantanimo hes guilty right? Or are they there to wait for the trial? All I know is that I dont want these terrorists living in my county. I dont want these men in my back yard. I have a hard enough time trying to keep an eye on my nephew playing in MY yard with the innocent child molesters that live 2 blocks over.

Look I know that sometimes people have a hard time and are in the wrong place at the wrong time, But go on a Police ride-a-long and then you get a GLIMPSE of what goes on while our precious eyes are shut and we are snuggled in our beds. I used to think they were all innocent until proven guilty. Now after seeing what I saw I think we are all guilty until proven innocent.

  63. The other Brian said:

    LeeAnn,

I respect your sentiments and your fears.

And if we’re afraid to let our children play outside in our neighborhoods, what does that say about us? We can’t even make peace among ourselves.

But I’m not willing to lock up an innocent person because it might be you or me next. And, frankly, if I were innocent and locked up in a prison for 6 or 7 years without being charged or offered a trial, you can bet I’d be pretty disillusioned when I got out. Just the kind of people that the jihadis or the gangsters are looking to recruit.

the terrorists are not criminals. there is no “innocent until proven guilty” on the battlefield. these terrorists in gitmo were simply lucky enough to be taken prisoner by the armed forces, and are now being treated as criminals by “the chosen one” and the dems, much like clinton did, which resulted ultimately in 9/11.

somehow i doubt many more will be taken prisoner … why risk your life to take a terrorist prisoner when it is just so much safer to drop a 1,000 pounds of napalm on them (or whatever we use nowadays)?

i am not up on modern munitions

  67. Ken said:

Thanks for the history lesson, Brian! I am well aware of what the founding fathers intended. Interestingly enough though, I can’t find any records of Revolutionary War prisoners being tried in a court of law. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

They were exchanged in prisoner exchanges, something perhaps we could have done had the enemy not executed and mutilated the bodies of the U.S. servicemen that it did manage to capture.

“Guilty men go free and innocent men are put to death. But unless we offer a legal process for finding justice, however imperfect, we’re just being arbitrary.”

Have we put to death an innocent man? I do agree about the justice system, though, it needs major work.

“Would you rather see an innocent man executed or a guilty man go free?”

Well, obviously, I would rather see a guilty man go free, but these people were not goat herders caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps this is why 61 of freed Guantanamo detainees have returned to terrorism, and those are just the ones we know of. A battlefield is not a court of law, Brian. Should we subpoena the soldiers from the battlefield to testify against each detainee? Should the military now carry criminal forensic teams into battle to process each prisoner they capture. You cannot turn a war into a court of law, it doesn’t work.

“I do wonder, though, how al Amji was released. Lack of information? Bureaucratic confusion? Or was it that a half dozen years of detention without trial created the resentment that created a terrorist?”

More likely it was the pressure created by so many people worried about the rights of terrorists, the same ones who rejoiced when they were released, the same ones who rejoiced when it was announced that Guantanamo Bay was going to be shut down, the same ones who are oddly silent now. I do now know of any other war in which the enemy was given constitutional rights and then freed because they could not be prosecuted.

“If you have issues with that, have a discussion with John Locke and Thomas Jefferson.”

Fair enough. I guess if you have problems with holding terrorists indefinitely you could talk to the 12 people in Iraq who were killed by the latest suicide bomber….except, of course…they’re dead.

  76. The other Brian said:

I understand, lisab, but who defines the battlefield?

Turn off the TV and talk to real people who’ve experienced the reality of “war” in their neighborhood..

For example. Some fellows who don’t look like me, don’t speak my language, and don’t respect my god come to my neighborhood with the intentions of “liberating” me. Hey, I don’t know why it happened, but they kicked in my door and dragged out my wife and kids and me in the middle of the night and wanted to know where the weapons were. I got a little pissed, and they labeled me an “enemy combatant” and took me away. And the local mayor is pissed at me because I don’t give him protection money to keep my melon shop open, so he testifies against me. And they haul my ass off. WTF

To put this in perspective, if the someone came into my house, here at home, I’d show him my .357 with the premium load, and I would be the “enemy combatant.”

Don’t you know WTF is going on here? Or do you believe the S%$T that they’re telling you. Grow up and look at the world with your own eyes.

I’ve traveled in Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, and Israel. I know the people on the ground. They’re proud, much like we are. And they’re people like you and me, and they’ll tell you their stories with more honesty than ANY American media outlet.

This isn’t a real war. This is someone’s wet dream to expend munitions so we have to buy some more (lobbying defense contractors), a junket for contracted defense workers, a training ground for our military, a grab at securing oil and pipelines, and making a geopolitical statement to Russia and China. Oh, and I forgot, to secure someone’s place in history as a “wartime president.” And an act of national revenge, lashing out at whomever we can, because we don’t have the skill or balls to deal with the real culprits. After all, who would consciously would make Bin Laden a martyr?

It makes for great entertainment, but you seem to want to use a completely fictional account as a factual basis for your argument.

And, of course, the obligatory “Don’t you know WTF is going on here? Or do you believe the S%$T that they’re telling you. Unimpressive, to say the least. I’m constantly amazed how those who view themselves as the best and brightest among us can’t seem to get everyone on board with them and believing exactly what they do. I mean, if they’re really as intelligent as they claim to be, something like getting 100% of the population to see things their way should be a snap.

“America’s willing to sacrifice principles for expediency. ”

    Not really.
But we are willing to sacrifice ameneties such as we did in WW2.
Plastics, chocolate, steel, aluminum were all diverted to the military while people at home made due without them.
If I have to let Uncle Sam listen in while I’m calling Lebanon I dont mind if it allows them to listen in on one true threat that could kill someone.
If you think I’m a bastard for putting jumper cables on Abduls nipples I could care less if it saves one American. If its bogus info, thats the price he pays for shooting at my soldiers.
I’ve never served, tried to, they wouldnt take me. But I’m going to take a wild guess and assume that war is about beating the other guy into submission and not about seeing who can be the most ethical.
I believe that if we just fought balls out in the beggining things would come to an end much quicker resulting in less casualties than the way we drag it out these days due these stupid ass rules of engagement our troops need to follow.
