it’s only been six days since the immaculate inauguration of The One and he has been very busy!
is there hope and change in the air? some will say many of his actions detailed below give us a big ^5 from the global public relations nags in this country, which in turn, will surely make the world love us again. um, won’t they?
- the first thing bo did was sign a proclamation declaring January 20, 2009,
‘worship me day’a ‘national day of renewal and reconciliation.’ heh. i feel like an attempt to reconcile with me was made don’t you? pfffft. - he signed an executive order putting a temporary halt to gitmo terrorist trials.
- he signed an executive order closing guantanamo bay detention center (note the spelling sophia), but has no idea where to put these jihadis who have vowed to kill us all.
- he signed an executive order closing the cia super secret ‘black sites’ and in the process of doing so, he told the whole freakin world how many there were, which was, you know, a secret.
- he blatantly blew off medal of honor recipients while hip hopping with his thug and celebutard buddies.
- he greviously reversed the policy which had previously stopped federal money from being used for abortions, including abortions around the world, radically and immediately increasing the killing of preborn babies.
- his so-called ‘new era of bipartisanship’ which he had promised would be part of his hopeful administration, isn’t going so well. has he nominated a Republican for anything yet? nope.
- he acted stupid with the media who finally asked a tough question.
- he actually sided with ‘warmonger’ president bush on FISA - the warrantless wiretaps. - he bombed pakistan - air-raiding villages & killing innocent civilians - something he complained loudly about during the campaign. this as you would imagine, caused moonbat heads to explode everywhere. ew. what a mess.
- tried to do a shut down a private citizen engaged in exercising free speech - something he has done before.
- he fed something to Byrd and Kennedy that sent them to the hospital. ok, so it wasn’t The One’s fault..or was it? :insert creepy sounds here:
- he refused access to press photographers to take first oval office photos.
- he called Mahmoud Abbas for his first foreign call as president. outrageous.
- he tightened the rules on lobbyists in his administration, then blew them off and hired a lobbyist. ‘do what i say but not what i do because i have an obvious lobbist problem!’
- and finally, to make it his presidency all fresh and techy, he has received a ’special blackberry’ which allow him to continue his addiction.
his proposed trillion dollar boondoggle he calls his economic stimulus package is filled with pork and patently redistribution yet, it too, will most likely work it’s way through the congress to his desk for signature.
elections have consequences - we will be living this for a long time to come.

This post is load of STEAMING HOT CRAP. None of this is a surprise. Barack promised all of it. Oh so f’in what if he gets a blackberry. You should be ashamed of yourself for this. It demeans 65 million of us who wanted these things done and voted him in to make sure it was. I am not wild about the Pakistan issue. It is a concern but I bet it has everything to do with Gates being left in there. And the same commanders on the ground. I will bet that Gates is gone soon. He should have never been retained.
Also take an economics class before you comment on the stimulus package. I bet you were first in line to cash your check from Shrub. You are also lying about the press photo op. The administration provided pictures which happens with every administration.
And could you get any more stupid on bi-partisanship? That was referring to working with republican members of congress. It had nothing to do with putting a f’in one on the cabinet! Isn’t Gates a republican? That is the problem.
That hell hole in Cuba is finally closing and it can’t close soon enough for me. The only problem is how do we keep things like what happened at Abu Graib from happening in U. S. Prisons with these people who obviously need human rights provided. I don’t have the confidence that if they are moved to military prisons, that the same could not happen. They are in our custody, they need protection. I just hope they don’t need protection from us. They have languished there long enough.

You need to hope and pray he succeeds so that our country can rebound from the Bush years and get us back economically and relationally with other countries. Your mocking does seem annoying. I went to the link you supplied and even the author admits that Obama did not attend the ball.
In reading further it becomes clear that even the author does not know the exact reason for Obama not attending but instead only offers a few plausible scenarios based on speculation, opinion and the few people he spoke to.

Really , the venom that the left has spewed in the last 8 years and even up until after Obama won should be reason enough to understand that they don’t know the difference between dissent, deliberate sabotage and lying.

Eight years of hearing “Bushitler” and “He lied” and “He’s spying on citizens” and “He’s torturing prisoners” and “He’s destroying the Constitution” and suddenly now it’s “BO’s being duly elected. Let’s come together.” We heard for eight years that dissent was patriotic and that the left was only exercising their right to free speech, and now we hear “you people are a stumbling block.”
Amazing how the left’s rhetoric has changed. It also shows the glaring two-faced nature of the left. Equal rights are only for people who share their beliefs.

Our life isn’t any different yet, but we can see the writing on the wall. Obama is using the current economic crisis to pass a massive stimulus package that is overflowing with pork for the dems special interests.
Can anyone tell me what millions of dollars in contraceptives is going to do for the economy? How about billions towards far left organizations like ACORN that helped Obama get elected? Nothing suspicious there, folks, keep moving.
In other words, Fran, no we will not be silent. We had to listen to the Bush haters ignorant laced rants for 8 years, we have every right to voice our opposition to what we see as an economic plan that will create more government dependence.

The point is that if Obama is given time and opportunity we very well could be living in a socialist state within a year or two.
The next thing in some minds would be to ask themselves how long it would take to return to a capitalistic society after such a thing were to happen.
If you study history you’ll notice that when socialism fails the countries who adapted it have collapsed and failed as well and usually end up committed to ideals and methods that go against the grain of what America stands for..
So returning to capitalism after an Obama term may not be possible until we have suffered unnecessarily for God knows how long.
You seem to approach this as if were just an election for freaking homecoming queen or something of some simple nature when you say “I am not sure what you think is so bad.”
You may see things from liberal perspective. But in order to appreciate what you think your party has to offer you need to understand what the opposition offers also in order to gain true perspective.
It seems you are oblivious to what conservatism stands for otherwise you would be able to at least relate to our concerns.
I’m a recovering dem with 15 years of conservatism under my belt, a die hard product of the 60s that couldn’t take always feeling like a victim and always finding myself dependant on the government. I studied both ideologies and decided this is where I want to be. Since then life has been great. I wont go into my personal wealth to any real detail, or the quality of my life but I’ll say that everything has improved dramatically.
I know what I’m missing.

The biggest difference you’ll see is that we as conservatives won’t be making mindless claims, like the election was stolen; or “Obama lied, people died” (unless we do it just for fun); or claiming that some secret underground gov’t was actually running the show; or that any Bin Laden tapes that surface is being produced on some back lot in Hollywood by the administration in order to try and keep the masses in line with fear, fear, fear; or that BHO is going to implement martial law (or as most libs spell it, “marshall law”) in order to retain power; or that FEMA is building re-education camps in which to round up all those opposed to BHO; or any number of the other crazy ideas that have been floated and promoted by high ranking Dem/libs for the past 8 years.

I’m quite certain there were different attendees at those balls. It does not make their service and sacrifices in this country any less significant and it certainly isn’t dumb to make a gesture to them by making an appearance. They were there to celebrate right along with him, remember? And who cares about efficiency when Barack Obama made history?!! Didn’t you get the memo?!! Michelle was proud, dang it. They had a REAL reason to celebrate, except not with ALL those military attendees. Just a few of those medal of honor recipients was efficient. Any more than that would have been, well you know, dumb. (eye roll)

Kate, regarding the nomination of Republicans to cabinet positions, Ray LaHood was nominated as the Transportation Secretary. I have seen LaHood described as a moderate Republican and as a former Republican, so I’m not sure what his political party affiliation is at the moment. Maybe even LaHood is confused. LOL

A lot of unnecessary vitriol, but both sides are making some good points. It’s a contest of ideas, isn’t it? And many of us take our kids’ little league games much too seriously.
How’s the president doing so far? (No need to use the sarcastic epithet “annointed one.” ) Poor choice of Treasure secretary. Bad ethics. Good choice for Secretary of State (if Hillary steps out of line, she’s fired and her political career’s over…no safety net). Good choice with Gates.
No big deal with the economic stimulus package, either. The outgoing president gave a big parting gift to his loyal followers and the new president is giving a big thank you gift to his supporters. No big deal. Business as usual.
Closing Guantanimo? Not a bad idea if you’re a strict constructionist who values habeas corpus as much as the right to be silent. And we had to figure out a legal way to deal with these detainees., anyway. Why not make an announcement that the problem will be solved in a year or you (read attorney general, e.g.) will be looking for a job.
Reallocating troops from Iraq to Afghanistan? Good idea. Sitting on his ands during the Israel/Gaza conflict. A good idea, too. Appointing George Mitchell peace envoy to the region. A good patient negotiator with a track record of success (remember Ireland?).
Freedom of choice? The majority of Americans support Roe v. Wade. A simple political decision.
The rest is just noise.
It’s kind of fun having a pragmatist in the White House rather than an ideologue, don’t you think?
Relax. He’s only been in office seven days. There’ll be plenty of time for him to make mistakes that really matter.

Well, first of all, Ken, we hold these truths to be self evident that all men (not just Americans) are endowed with certain unalienable rights. These come from the creator, not our government. Our government is just the protector of these rights. If you have issues with that, have a discussion with John Locke and Thomas Jefferson. These are the philosophical underpinnings of our democracy. You compromise this first premise and the raison d’etre the American government dissolves.
That said, the implementation of justice is imperfect. Guilty men go free and innocent men are put to death. But unless we offer a legal process for finding justice, however imperfect, we’re just being arbitrary.
So what it boils down to is an ethical question. Would you rather see an innocent man executed or a guilty man go free? I believe in the rule of law, i.e., a man is innocent until proven guilty.
I do wonder, though, how al Amji was released. Lack of information? Bureaucratic confusion? Or was it that a half dozen years of detention without trial created the resentment that created a terrorist?
How about returning to our beliefs and ideals?

The other Brian, when your man that is innocent until proven guilty is in Guantanimo hes guilty right? Or are they there to wait for the trial? All I know is that I dont want these terrorists living in my county. I dont want these men in my back yard. I have a hard enough time trying to keep an eye on my nephew playing in MY yard with the innocent child molesters that live 2 blocks over.
Look I know that sometimes people have a hard time and are in the wrong place at the wrong time, But go on a Police ride-a-long and then you get a GLIMPSE of what goes on while our precious eyes are shut and we are snuggled in our beds. I used to think they were all innocent until proven guilty. Now after seeing what I saw I think we are all guilty until proven innocent.

But I’m not willing to lock up an innocent person because it might be you or me next. And, frankly, if I were innocent and locked up in a prison for 6 or 7 years without being charged or offered a trial, you can bet I’d be pretty disillusioned when I got out. Just the kind of people that the jihadis or the gangsters are looking to recruit.

the terrorists are not criminals. there is no “innocent until proven guilty” on the battlefield. these terrorists in gitmo were simply lucky enough to be taken prisoner by the armed forces, and are now being treated as criminals by “the chosen one” and the dems, much like clinton did, which resulted ultimately in 9/11.
somehow i doubt many more will be taken prisoner … why risk your life to take a terrorist prisoner when it is just so much safer to drop a 1,000 pounds of napalm on them (or whatever we use nowadays)?

Thanks for the history lesson, Brian! I am well aware of what the founding fathers intended. Interestingly enough though, I can’t find any records of Revolutionary War prisoners being tried in a court of law. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
They were exchanged in prisoner exchanges, something perhaps we could have done had the enemy not executed and mutilated the bodies of the U.S. servicemen that it did manage to capture.

Well, obviously, I would rather see a guilty man go free, but these people were not goat herders caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps this is why 61 of freed Guantanamo detainees have returned to terrorism, and those are just the ones we know of. A battlefield is not a court of law, Brian. Should we subpoena the soldiers from the battlefield to testify against each detainee? Should the military now carry criminal forensic teams into battle to process each prisoner they capture. You cannot turn a war into a court of law, it doesn’t work.

More likely it was the pressure created by so many people worried about the rights of terrorists, the same ones who rejoiced when they were released, the same ones who rejoiced when it was announced that Guantanamo Bay was going to be shut down, the same ones who are oddly silent now. I do now know of any other war in which the enemy was given constitutional rights and then freed because they could not be prosecuted.

Turn off the TV and talk to real people who’ve experienced the reality of “war” in their neighborhood..
For example. Some fellows who don’t look like me, don’t speak my language, and don’t respect my god come to my neighborhood with the intentions of “liberating” me. Hey, I don’t know why it happened, but they kicked in my door and dragged out my wife and kids and me in the middle of the night and wanted to know where the weapons were. I got a little pissed, and they labeled me an “enemy combatant” and took me away. And the local mayor is pissed at me because I don’t give him protection money to keep my melon shop open, so he testifies against me. And they haul my ass off. WTF
To put this in perspective, if the someone came into my house, here at home, I’d show him my .357 with the premium load, and I would be the “enemy combatant.”

I’ve traveled in Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, and Israel. I know the people on the ground. They’re proud, much like we are. And they’re people like you and me, and they’ll tell you their stories with more honesty than ANY American media outlet.

This is someone’s wet dream to expend munitions so we have to buy some more (lobbying defense contractors), a junket for contracted defense workers, a training ground for our military, a grab at securing oil and pipelines, and making a geopolitical statement to Russia and China. Oh, and I forgot, to secure someone’s place in history as a “wartime president.” And an act of national revenge, lashing out at whomever we can, because we don’t have the skill or balls to deal with the real culprits. After all, who would consciously would make Bin Laden a martyr?
And if it’s not, then the government doesn’t have its strategic s$%t together.

Just briefly reading his screeds, he sounds like one of those who believes “the Military Industrial Complex is controlled by powerful individuals who wage war to line their own pockets” type. Alex Jones tends to spew that non-sense quite a bit.
And, of course, the obligatory “Don’t you know WTF is going on here? Or do you believe the S%$T that they’re telling you. Grow up and look at the world with your own eyes.” comment, making sure we all realize that he can see things and understand things that we mere mortals just can’t or won’t, as case may be. Unimpressive, to say the least. I’m constantly amazed how those who view themselves as the best and brightest among us can’t seem to get everyone on board with them and believing exactly what they do. I mean, if they’re really as intelligent as they claim to be, something like getting 100% of the population to see things their way should be a snap.

The other Brian you crack me up!! Yeah Id like Maine but in the SUMMER!!! Its a tad bit chilly in the winter. No Sugarloaf for me unless its a weekend trip ! I liked the sledding it looked like fun!

Not really.
But we are willing to sacrifice ameneties such as we did in WW2.
Plastics, chocolate, steel, aluminum were all diverted to the military while people at home made due without them.
If I have to let Uncle Sam listen in while I’m calling Lebanon I dont mind if it allows them to listen in on one true threat that could kill someone.
If you think I’m a bastard for putting jumper cables on Abduls nipples I could care less if it saves one American. If its bogus info, thats the price he pays for shooting at my soldiers.
I’ve never served, tried to, they wouldnt take me. But I’m going to take a wild guess and assume that war is about beating the other guy into submission and not about seeing who can be the most ethical.
I believe that if we just fought balls out in the beggining things would come to an end much quicker resulting in less casualties than the way we drag it out these days due these stupid ass rules of engagement our troops need to follow.
