scrupples
February 12, 2009
UPDATED at the end of the end of this post.
republican senator judd gregg of new hampshire withdrew his name for consideration of commerce secretary today.
WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire has withdrawn his nomination to become President Barack Obama’s Commerce secretary.
In a statement released by his office, the New Hampshire senator cites “irresolvable conflicts” on issues including the economic stimulus package.
Gregg was named the Commerce nominee a week ago after the withdrawal of former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
and senator gregg had a statement as well. here it is in part:
‘However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.
Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.’
senator gregg decided he really just couldn’t do it. he actually chose higher principles over the blatant power and money grabs by obama, pelosi, reid and all their flying monkeys.
his scrupples are one small but bright spot in this whole sorry affair.
_____
Update: so even though senator gregg has scrupples, we know the one and his administration does not. here is the official wh statement.
For Immediate Release February 12, 2009
STATEMENT FROM PRESS SECRETARY
ROBERT GIBBS“Senator Gregg reached out to the President and offered his name for Secretary of Commerce. He was very clear throughout the interviewing process that despite past disagreements about policies, he would support, embrace, and move forward with the President’s agenda. Once it became clear after his nomination that Senator Gregg was not going to be supporting some of President Obama’s key economic priorities, it became necessary for Senator Gregg and the Obama administration to part ways. We regret that he has had a change of heart.”
throwing gregg ‘under the bus’ seems to be nothing but cover for buffoonery and greediness on The One’s part. frankly, i think the senator left well - head up, shield up, and slamming the door on the way out.

Way to reject socialism, Senator! I only wish more Republicans would stand up against this non-stimulus. The neo-socialists will, of course, accuse you of being an ignorant, hate filled, war mongering, fascist who hates the poor, so be ready.
Ignorant Kevin comment in 5….4…..3….2……1……

IT WAS THE DAMN REPUBLICANS THAT HAVE SCREWED UP OUR COMMERCE AND ECONOMY IN THE FIRST PLACE.
GOOD DAMN RIDDANCE. WE WON SO WE DON’T HAVE TO HAVE ANY REPUBLICANS IN THERE ANYWAY. BARACK WAS JUST TRYING TO BE NICE BUT OBVIOUSLY NICE DOESN’T WORK WITH YOU PEOPLE DOES IT?
February 12th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
Sophia, yea thats what I want in a president nice. PFFFFT I love all these little descriptions for BO. Nice, cool, rock star, and my favorite EXOTIC. Not exactly what I look for in a man or woman to lead the country. But hey I AM a conserative REPUBLICAN, and thank GOD a red girl in a red state.
Kudos to the Senator. Hopefully more will follow your lead.

“WHO WANTS A REPUBLICAN IN THE COMMERCE POSITION ANYWAY???? COMMERCE/STIMULUS!!!!”
Umm, apparently Obama did.
“IT WAS THE DAMN REPUBLICANS THAT HAVE SCREWED UP OUR COMMERCE AND ECONOMY IN THE FIRST PLACE.”
As predictable as ever Sohpia, perhaps you could provide a link to some sort of evidence?
“BARACK WAS JUST TRYING TO BE NICE BUT OBVIOUSLY NICE DOESN’T WORK WITH YOU PEOPLE DOES IT?”
No, Barack was just trying to put up the illusion of bipartisanship, but you apparently aren’t paying attention. It has nothing to do with being nice, it has to do with not wanting to see the country ruined, something Republicans are against, but something neo-socialists are very energetic for. Take a bow.

I heard during the vetting process it was discovered Gregg actually paid his taxes.
February 12th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
Kate did you expect any less? It’s getting crowded under the bus.
Ted you made me lol. HAHAHHAHHAHAHAH thanks
February 12th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
You people are the buffoons. Gregg isn’t wanted in the R party and he certainly isn’t wanted in the D party. He needs to go home and fish. And Ted, do you pay your taxes?
And Ken that was an imbecile comment to make. Like a child you are. And Rope all you do is laugh. Got any thoughts of your own?
February 12th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Thanks for proving my point Kevin.
I must say, you accusing ANYONE of being childish is absolutely hysterical.
February 12th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Here’s one Kevin.
I don’t think they should let you have access to a computer at the nuthouse.
Just a thought……..

Kevin;
“Gregg isn’t wanted in the R party”
Really Kevin ?
I’d ask you to share with me where you got that from but but I have a feeling that it came from the same place all your other “sh*t” come from.
Absolutely pathetic.

Given the choice of serving his country in a positive manner during one of the worst crises we’ve had in the last century, Judd Gregg would rather obstruct.
Every Republican member of the House of Representatives voted against the stimulus. All but three Republicans in the Senate voted against it. The public supports the stimulus package. But the Republicans don’t listen to the public except that small minority that makes up the extremist Republican base.
When called to serve his country, Judd Gregg flinched, and revealed himself too beholden to the extremist views of a Republican party controlled by zealots.
Bipartisanship can only work when both parties put the national interest before everything. All but a few of the Republicans in Congress put their party before the good of the nation. Judd Gregg’s refusal to serve in the Obama cabinet demonstrates’ once again that the Republicans would rather obstruct progress than contribute to the good of the nation.
Now move over and let leaders lead.

To Pat: Thank You! So well Said!
To the rest of you: You all are just floping around in angry and futile impotence. You have already proven you care only for gaining power and the hell with everyone else. Really it seems you act worse then my 4 year old.
“Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong. by James Bryce”
The biggest flag wavers in this country were Bush and Cheney with absolutely no righteousness there that’s for sure. We finally have a chance to make our country well. To fix decades of problesm. Help us don’t fight us. You are my brother. I am your sister.

I, for one, am thrilled about Gregg’s display of cowardice.
I still can’t understand the nerve he had to say that he wouldn’t accept the Cabinet position unless a Republican took his place. But I also can’t believe Obama went through with picking him in the first place. Anyhow, its pretty obvious now that Boehner and the rest of the Senate Repubs find working on the 2010 election at every opportunity they can find. Even in the worst economic disaster this generation had ever seen, even after being asked by the President of the United States to join his administration and help to combat foresaid disaster.
Its true we had a better shot at taking his seat if it was an open race, but I think taking the seat in 2 years, from him personally, will be a much sweeter victory. I am sure people are working on that even as we speak!
Judd Gregg, f**k him and good riddance. Maybe now Obama will put a worthy Democrat in the Commerce post. I hope they are liberal as sh!t, too. haha.

Yes, Pat, its called “seeing the writing on the wall”. How many times do the neo-socialists have to be told that this WILL NOT STIMULATE the economy?? It’s that simple.
You can pile up the childish accustations that conservatives don’t care about poor people, or hate Obama, but it will not change the fact that conservatives are against the stimulus because its going to hurt us in the long run.
For all the posturing and posing I see from neo-socialists here, nobody can seem to provide any links or evidence to back up their claims.
“Bipartisanship can only work when both parties put the national interest before everything.”
Well said. Now can you please tell me how billions of dollars to the democrats pet projects that have nothing to do with the economy is putting the “national interest before everything”?? I have asked this question time and time again, yet none of them can give me an answer. So sad.
“To the rest of you: You all are just floping around in angry and futile impotence.”
If disagreeing with a non-stimulus plan that is only going to drag us down in the long run is “floping around in angry and futile impotence”, so be it.
“You have already proven you care only for gaining power and the hell with everyone else. Really it seems you act worse then my 4 year old.”
Oh, I know! The neo-socialists were such mature and intelligent people for the last 8 years when Bush was in charge. Are you kidding me Kodee? All the dems did was rail against Bush because it was popular. Most of the dems were cheerleaders for the Iraq war, then as soon as things got tough they jumped ships like the cowards they are and completely absolved themselves of any wrongdoing.
“We finally have a chance to make our country well. To fix decades of problesm. Help us don’t fight us. You are my brother. I am your sister.”
As I have said to the other “righteous” lefties tha come here. I will show you the same sort of help and goodwill that you showed Bush for 8 years.
February 13th, 2009 at 6:22 am
“Judd Gregg, f**k him and good riddance.”
Very mature, Jared.
Hey Kodee, what was it you were saying about anger and futility, and acting like a 4 year old????
February 13th, 2009 at 6:40 am
>>And Ted, do you pay your taxes?
Of course. Now did you put your money where your mouth is and invest all your money (yeah, the *whole* nickel you’re worth) in the stock market yesterday since you believe in BHO and his pork bill?
>>The public supports the stimulus package.
That’s a lie.
>>Bipartisanship can only work when both parties put the national interest before everything. All but a few of the Republicans in Congress put their party before the good of the nation.
That’s pretty funny coming out of 8 years of “Bush is Hitler.” And anyone who believes this pork bill, or liberalism in general, is for the good of the nation, is too immature to be requesting anything.
I know, to dolts like you “bipartisanship” is when R’s do everything the Dems want to do.
Shove it.
>>Now move over and let leaders lead.
The answer is “No,” you child. Besides, you might not have noticed but the R’s can’t do anything, the D’s hold the majority. So quit your stupid griping about things not getting done, because the D’s can ram anything through they want right now, so you have absolutely zero basis to complain about the R’s. Zero (not to be confused with the “Big Zero,” a/k/a BHO).
>>You have already proven you care only for gaining power and the hell with everyone else.
Democrats/liberals claiming the opposition only cares about power and everything else is irrelevant??
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA……….
>>Help us don’t fight us. You are my brother. I am your sister.
I don’t care to be any part of your dysfunctional anti-American family. Yeah, I know, you believe yourself to be for the good of the country. If that were true, then you wouldn’t have behaved like brats for the last 8 years. But you did. None of you have anyone to blame except yourselves.
The only thing any of you Dems/libs here are demonstrating is that you know nothing about economics. Nothing. Well, you’re getting ready to learn the hard way. Welcome to the real world and for the sake of the country let’s hope your foolish political ideology drowns in a bathtub with you in it.
February 13th, 2009 at 6:50 am
…even after being asked by the President of the United States to join his administration and help to combat foresaid disaster.
How do you get there? Republicans were completely shut out of any discussions about this spending package that has been misnamed. They offered alternatives but were ignored.
The disaster is built into this piece of porkulus. Any actual stimulus that might exist won’t hit the economy for another 18 months. And in the meantime government gets bigger and starts running up a tab that our grandchildren’s grandchildren will be paying for.
Kudos to Senator Gregg for standing by his principles.
Now - let the ad hominems begin…
February 13th, 2009 at 8:09 am
Pat;
” The public supports the stimulus package. ”
Ted beat me to this, but I’ll still reinforce the fact that this is a lie.
While most of the public supports some kind of stimulus the majority of the public most certainly does not support this bill as 62% have made it clear that it should have more tax breaks and less spending.
Its the spending the majority is opposed to, not stimulus.
So please, if your going to make a point dont hide it behind incomplete info, its called lying.
The bottom line is that Gregg said things were beggining to “crystalize” in his mind.
Which simply means that it had occured to him that if the white house was considering moving the census into its offices that would pretty much leave him with nothing to do but feed the fish.
Upon that he realized that his position was only meant to be an expedient display of bi partisanship and not a sincere one, consequently he did not want to be a part of what was beggining to look like the destruction of his country.
This was made most evident by his voting against the stimulus in its present form in the first place.
“Judd Gregg’s refusal to serve in the Obama cabinet demonstrates’ once again that the Republicans would rather obstruct progress than contribute to the good of the nation. ”
Hmm… grow up.
If there were not counter opinions in government coming from opposing political persuasions America would never of made it this far you dimwit.
You should expect Gregg to voice his concerns as much as I would expect you or any liberal on the hill to voice his concerns.
Thats what we do in this country you idiot.
I dont care for liberals and some of the points they make in their oppositions but I do not act like a cheap sh*t little b*tch and call opposition “obstructionism”.
I wouldnt expect you to fall in line any more than you should expect me to.
It is for the debate to determine what is “good” as you say for the country and not one delusional individual such as yourself.
Once the opportunity for the debate is gone, that is when we are in serious trouble.
February 13th, 2009 at 9:59 am
Sophia said: IT WAS THE DAMN REPUBLICANS THAT HAVE SCREWED UP OUR COMMERCE AND ECONOMY IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Sure, because there were no Democrats in Congress during the past 8 years. They haven’t been the majority for the past 2. They didn’t have a Representative named Barney Franks who defeated former President Bush’s attempts at regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They didn’t have a Senator named Christopher Dodd who used his position on the Banking Commission to secure himself some pretty snazzy loan deals, all the while resisting all the signs that Fannie & Freddie were about to implode.
No - that was all done by Republicans…
Sophia, just a side note: do you spend all your time conversing at a yell?
February 13th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Kris whats the point in trying to educate people like Sophia with the truth. Their version of the truth is “Bush did it!” I really think we waste our time with these moonbats trying to make them see the truth. What they see is what these other idiots see, Barry is going to pay my mortgage, my car payment, I don’t even need to worry about finding a job; he’ll take care of me. What a joke.
