he is no reagan
February 24, 2009
UPDATED: after watching The One last night give his faux state of the union address, i would like to give my simple response…
feel free to quote me.
_____
so i guess the lincoln comparison became a wee bit overdone and yes, laughable for team obama so they’re trying to co-opt president reagan. his buffoon of a spokesperson, robert gibbs, has been floating that a ‘reaganesque speech’ from The One can be expected during tonite’s speech to congress.
“The president believes very clearly that we have to be honest with the American people about where we are,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“He will,” Gibbs said, “tell the country that we’ve faced … greater challenges than the ones we face now, but we as Americans always meet those challenges. But in the Reaganesque words, there are always better days ahead.”
this whole ‘reaganesque’ roll-out by The One’s minions is simply more stagecraft designed to look pretty, sound pretty, and keep people hooked. you see that don’t you? he and his bitter wife have been camelot, he has been lincoln, there was fdr imagery, and now reagan. his character is so corrupted that he needs to re-invent himself with every issue. have you ever seen such a poser?
The One has spent most of his month in office speaking of crisis, calamity, and catastrophe. he has said how it’s all going to be much, much worse before it gets just a wee bit better. this, of course, had the desired effect - it riles up the middle class. it creates an ‘us against them’ - the greedy capitalists on wall street, the titans of industry, the investment class. it’s classic ‘class warfare’ at its finest, and to be certain, obama knows how to play that game well.
and now, all of sudden, he thinks he’s ronald reagan. why? because we, the ‘chattering class,’ are beginning a groundswell revolt against his policies that energizes the opposition and the lukewarm.
be prepared. obama will come out tonight glorifying the optimism that is inherently American, but reminding us also that government is his only idea, the only answer he has to our problems - a very un-reagan trait.
and expect the media to slobber rejoice.

With 4 years of this wonder if he will go through the entire list of presidents. We could take bets on who he wants to be next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 24th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Funny, I always thought a liberals world was not complete without demonizing Reagan.
I suggest they dont milk this one too far.
If the speech is to be truly Reaganesque Obama will have to abandon just about every core principle he operates by.
February 24th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Reagan was a war-mongering, half-dead ass. He got as far as he did on the charm offensive and shear likeability. Obama will not BECOME Reagan he is just using Reagan’s tool box. Surely you people get that?
I can’t wait for the speech personally. It will take the sails out of your silly little tea parties if nothing else.
Note to “Rope”: are you a male or female or a shemale? Just checking… I am not sure how to communicate with you.
February 24th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
kevin why does it matter what sex rope is? women and men should be extended the same courtesies don’t you think?
February 24th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
“I am not sure how to communicate with you.”
Or anyone else for that matter, and seeing as how you’re all into that “exotic” thing you’re probably hoping its a bearded hermaphrodite
February 24th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Micky you white trash nincompoop. I am trying to be respectful. Something you wouldn’t know anything about.
February 24th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Kate: see my comment to Micky. Although I do think you are a nincompoop, I don’t think you are white trash. I am still not decided about Rope and yes my decision probably will be based on gender.
February 24th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
“he is just using Reagan’s tool box. Surely you people get that?’
Of course we get it moron, man, thats what the author is trying to say by quoting that Pinocchio Gibbs .
Man, that sh*t went right over your pointy little head, didnt it ?
“It will take the sails out of your silly little tea parties if nothing else.”
Hmm…
Never heard that one before. Pretty far reach at what I think you’re so idiotically trying to say.
I’ve heard of “crashing tea parties” and “taking the wind out of ones sails”
But I’ve yet to come across a tea party on a boat, never mind a sail boat at that.
The type of tea party you are probably intending to refer to did take place under some sails which were no doubt hoisted due to the ships being moored to the piers in Boston harbour at the time of said event.
I think the sailor in you is a little confused Kevin.
“Reagan was a war-mongering, half-dead ass. He got as far as he did on the charm offensive and shear likeability.”
Yes, Gorbachev found the thousand of nuclear missile pointed at him by us very likeable and charming.
Trust me Kevin, had it not been for Reagan the Russia we see today could very well be our greatest threat. Not to say that its not headed back in that same direction but to of not “taken the wind” out of its communist sails when we did could of resulted in the problem we see now being much greater.
In Russias recent moves that indicate a desire to return to communist rule, present socialist rule being that catalyst along with its threat to Europe and its neighbors, it would actually be very advisable for Obama to take a look into the methods employed by the Reagan adminstration in its defeat of the Soviets.
“Obama will not BECOME Reagan ”
Probably the only valid point you’ve ever made, and the only one that I will probably ever agree with
February 24th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
I love that the networks will be covering President Obama’s speech. Hope they focus on the bitter, pasty faces of the Republican dead-enders. Especially Mitch McConnell who will look positively dreary. And make sure you all notice when your GOP’ers fail to applaud. They will look spiteful, childish, and small.
When President Obama talks about unity and working together, I am sure they will not stay seated. The question is: How much will they embarrass themselves tonite?
And the GOP is all atwitter of Gov. Jindal Jindal giving your rebuttal speech. He is a wingnut without credibility. He rejects 2% of the Stimulus Funds for his state and crows about it in the MSM day after day.
Yes I can’t wait for the speech. And I will be back to rub your noses in it.
February 24th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Is kevin flirting with me again?
February 24th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
“I am trying to be respectful. ”
Of course you do realize that you failed miserably when you made it evident that it seems to matter what ones sex is as to how they are to be treated ?
Further confirmation of your complete ignorance and stupidity.
Face it Kevin, if you read every book on manners and how to carry and conduct ones self you would still be more offensive than a hefty bag full of sh*t thats been in the sun for a week. Only because I believe your problem to be a mixture of organic shortcomings cerebrally and anatomically (get some Extenze) along with probably being blasted upside the head by your parents every other day simply for uttering the same kind of stupid sh*t you display here.
February 24th, 2009 at 4:39 pm
” love that the networks will be covering President Obama’s speech. Hope they focus on the bitter, pasty faces of the Republican dead-enders. Ahh yes, more thoughtful substantive comments coming from the Mensa organization.
Lets focus on physicalities, maybe ask them who they’re wearing while were at it.
F*ck it ! Throw in the red carpet while were at it.
“When President Obama talks about unity and working together, I am sure they will not stay seated.”
Are you saying the GOP will give a standing ovation ?
You are lost, really, arent you ?
“The question is: How much will they embarrass themselves tonite?”
I wouldnt count on it. Its not them giving the speech
“And the GOP is all atwitter of Gov. Jindal Jindal giving your rebuttal speech. He is a wingnut without credibility. He rejects 2% of the Stimulus Funds for his state and crows about it in the MSM day after day.”
Oh good god you mean to tell me that theres actually an independent thinker in this country that can see this POS bill for what it is ?
You idiot, that percentage commits him to pay more unemployment benefits out of state funds when Obamas stimulus fails in 2 years.
Jindal has incredible credibility as he is the one who has finally begun to lead Louisiana out the drudgery the dem party has kept it in since Katrina.
Wise up.
“Yes I can’t wait for the speech. And I will be back to rub your noses in it.”
Only if you promise to flush first
February 24th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
God these neo-socialist rants get old. I wish I could say that tearing apart their arguments gets old, but they offer no arguments.
Pennie and Kevin remind me of children on a playground who have no friends so they sit in the corner and make fun of everybody else.
Obama will be seen for what he is, eventually. Then people like Pennie and Kevin will crawl back under their rocks where they have been the last 8 years.
Obama is out of his league and with every passing speech, more and more people see it. I only hope his incompetence and inexperience don’t get a lot of people killed.
“Yes I can’t wait for the speech. And I will be back to rub your noses in it.”
Thanks for proving my point, Pennie.
February 24th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
I heard enough of Obama’s lies during the campaign, I don’t need to hear any more. Is it 2012 yet?
By the way, Obama isn’t fit to scrub the same toilets that Reagan used.
February 24th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
It’ll be interesting to see which Republicans show up early enough to snag the aisle seats so they can shake Obama’s hand.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
“Yes I can’t wait for the speech. And I will be back to rub your noses in it.”
Really, this is kinda scary.
Its just a speech honey, relax, they’re just words, vibrations that dissipate into thin air and carry little meaning unless those words actually take on a form of action or motivation.
Although I guess if it were a game of Simon says the adhoring leftists would all take first prize.
Obama will say “HOPE” and all moonbats will stand applauding vigorously while peeing their pants in ecstasy.
Obama will say “CHANGE” and they will all run to the head to put on fresh undies.
Maybe do some foot tapping with the next stall.
Obama will say “BI - PARTISAN EFFORT” and I will raise my middle digit with a resounding “yea right a$$hole ! “.
Obama will say “REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS ALIKE” To which I will reply “theres no such thing !”
I predict the messiah will say “crisis” at least 15 times, “catastrophe” at least 10 times, and that he will invoke at least 3 other presidents whom he think he resembles in some fashion, even Bush.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Wow. I’m impressed by the sheer tolerance of the liberals here. And I will be back to rub your noses in it. Great way to win converts to your side. And impressive words from somebody on a keyboard, where it’s nice and safe.
It’s also impressive to see the range of expertise they bring: Reagan was a war-mongering, half-dead ass. He got as far as he did on the charm offensive and shear likeability.
It’s nice to see that even the linguistically challenged admit that Reagan was a likeable guy. Of course, Obama seems like a nice enough guy, if you ignore his association with terrorists, felons, and other disreputable folks. Reagan came about his likeability honestly. The other characterizations are pure leftist fictions that have long since been proven invalid to all but the snarling, spittle-laden “tolerant” crowd.
February 24th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
While we can all be thankful that President Obama is no Reagan, I feel compelled to note the stark contrast in sheer delivery skills between the current president and his unfortunate predecessor.
Gads, but Mitch McConnell resembles nothing so much as a 3-day corpse fished out of the river.
Regarding Ken’s comment about Reagan and toilets, I must offer humble correction: by the time ol’ Prunehead was in the Oval, he was using Depends undergarments. He left the toilets for the young folk!
Ah, gratuitous and ribald! I’m ashamed of myself for indulging in this sophomoric banter. But, you know, sometimes a man just has to…
February 24th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Well Barack was masterful as usual. I do so agree with Dade that our president should at least has some command of the english language. Poor Shrub alas couldn’t even have a conversation without bumbling something or another.
Jindal on the other hand seems to be a bit out of touch no? He was very stooge-ish with a strange look in his eye. And frankly I don’t see him as being your best front man. Would it not have been better to put your best out there to go against Barack? But I guess you guys don’t know to do that because look who you ran against him! LMFAO.
Also it seems that off white must be the new black in the GOP. You guys think if you put out there someone who isn’t an old white haired white dude you will be ‘enlightened’. Sorry you guys look like tokenism run wild with Jindal.
February 24th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Was it just me or did anyone else think Pelosi looked insane tonite? She had some crazy wild eyed look in her eyes and then she kept popping up and down like she was being goosed over and over. It was surreal.
Barack masterful? Naw. He is somebody’s Frankenstein. He is a creation. A prop. A character of sorts. A real pretender.
Nice blog.
February 24th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Just a little something for you to recap a lovely night together with our President. From a CBS snap poll following President Obama’s speech, here’s the question:
Is the Stimulus is going to help me?
Before: 62%
After: 79%
That would be the speech that was followed-up with Bobby Jindal calling the stimulus “irresponsible.” Why do Republicans hate Americans?
February 24th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Hey thanks for all the slams earlier. I appreciate them because they only make me stronger you bunch of haters. About Bobby Jindal well he sux and somewhere in Alaska, a woman laughs.
February 25th, 2009 at 6:23 am
“by the time ol’ Prunehead was in the Oval, he was using Depends undergarments.”
Yet he was still twice the president Obama will ever be, hmmmmm.
“I’m ashamed of myself for indulging in this sophomoric banter.”
Sometimes it’s all you got, right?
“Well Barack was masterful as usual.”
There’s a shock!!! Jared thinks Obama was masterful! Why is that?
“I do so agree with Dade that our president should at least has some command of the english language.”
Totally! It would also be nice to have a president who knew there were 50 states in our nation, not 57. Oh well, you can’t have everything I guess.
“Sorry you guys look like tokenism run wild with Jindal.”
And you guys look like spoiled, ignorant children. As I have said before, enjoy it while you can.
“Was it just me or did anyone else think Pelosi looked insane tonite?”
You mean that wild eyed “I’m Obama’s puppetmaster!” look? You’re right, she did. I wonder why that is?
“A real pretender.”
Bingo!
“That would be the speech that was followed-up with Bobby Jindal calling the stimulus “irresponsible.” Why do Republicans hate Americans?”
Wow, the public was moved by a speech!! That’s never happened before! Here’s another poll for you Pennie:
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/war_on_terror/war_on_terror_update
“Confidence in how America is doing in the War on Terror has dropped dramatically in the past two weeks. Just 47% of voters now believe the United States and its allies are winning.”
Way to go Barack!!! Hey, how about him giving almost $1 billion to Gaza to rebuild? I’m sure the cries of “We can spend that money better at home!!!” will be kicking in any minute now………….any minute…………wait for it……..
February 25th, 2009 at 6:24 am
“I appreciate them because they only make me stronger you bunch of haters.”
As long as you believe that Asia, that’s all that matters
LOL!!!
February 25th, 2009 at 7:18 am
Oh, one more thing. Right-wing hero Charles Krauthammer apparently disagrees with you Kate. Here’s what he said on Fox News after Bobby Jindall embarrassed himself:
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: “Jindal didn’t have a chance. He follows Obama, who in making speeches, is in a league of his own. He’s in a Reagan-esque league. … [Jindal] tried the best he could.”
Republicans are on the verge of an intraparty war for dominance. On the one hand, you’ve got McConnell and Boehner and the ultraright wing, on the other you’ve got those whom the Blatherings gang call RINOs, Specter, Snow, Charilie Crist, the Terminator. It’s gonna be bloody, but necessary for your party.
Tear each other up!
February 25th, 2009 at 8:31 am
“Well Barack was masterful as usual. I do so agree with Dade that our president should at least has some command of the english language. Poor Shrub alas couldn’t even have a conversation without bumbling something or another.”
Uh, ah, hmm..uhmm, what was that you say ?
————————————————-
Pennie;
“Is the Stimulus is going to help me?”
Before: 62% werent aware of the 13 bucks a week they had coming
After: 79% realized the stimulus was only going to help “ME” and not the country or economy
——————————————————-
Dade, nice try, but I’m a avid fan of Krauthammer and know for a fact that he does not approve of Obamas stimulus or economic policies.
In proper context he was only refering to the auditory delivery of the speech in comparisson to Jindal, he was in no way complimenting any substantive issues or ideas put forth in the speech.
I sat here and listened to Krauthammer on FOX do a blow by blow commentary on Obamas speech.
You’re full of sh*t
February 25th, 2009 at 8:51 am
Suit yourself, Mickey.
It just seems to me that the GOP needs to get its own house in order before it tries to take on Obama.
You’ve got half the GOP governors in favor of the stimulus, and the other half dead set against it.
You’ve got the GOP congressional leadership putting the thumb on their caucuses to hold the line while driving their own approval rating through the floor.
You’ve got Michael Steele threatening to withhold funds from Snowe, Collins, and Specter, then backing off when he got called on it.
You’ve got the conservative blogs and media personalities ranting about the danger that Obama poses while public perceptions of the GOP are in the toilet.
You’ve got (ostensibly) conservative commentators like David Brooks calling Bobby Jindall’s speech a disaster.
Face it. Your party is in a shambles. You need to have a good blood-letting within your own party. Otherwise you’ll continue to lose and lose and lose.
If you can’t see it, all the better for those of us who oppose you.
(BTW, Kate, I voted for Ken. Really.)
February 25th, 2009 at 9:45 am
“It’s gonna be bloody, but necessary for your party.”
I think you’re right about that. The Repuclicans definitely need to be more cohesive and consistent with their message, can’t argue that.
“(BTW, Kate, I voted for Ken. Really.)”
Thank you, brother.
February 25th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Here’s a good fact check of Obama’s speech. It pretty much breaks down the major points and has some interesting analysis of Obama’s “truth”.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/24/fact-check-president-glosses-complex-realities/
Also, here’ another interesting poll:
“Obama Less Popular Than Bush After First Month In Office”
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/02/24/obama-less-popular-bush-after-first-month-office
“For the first time since Gallup began tracking Barack Obama’s presidential job approval rating on Jan. 21, fewer than 60% of Americans approve of the job he is doing as president. In Feb. 21-23 polling, 59% of Americans give Obama a positive review, while 25% say they disapprove, and 16% have no opinion.
Almost exactly eight years ago, then newly-elected President Bush’s numbers were 62 percent approving his performance, 21 percent disapproving, and 17 percent having no opinion (scroll about 3/4 down this Polling Report link).”
OUCH! That’s gotta hurt!!!
February 25th, 2009 at 10:14 am
“Suit yourself, Mickey. ”
That has little if anything to do with the fact that all you did was cherry pick/ take what Krauthamer said out of context. Really, I gave you more credit than to play those grade school games.
“It just seems to me that the GOP needs to get its own house in order before it tries to take on Obama. ”
I hope you’re not implying that Obamas house is in any kind of order.
We can chew gum and walk at the same time.
Only a fool would think that we should not attack him on his short comings while redifining our message
“You’ve got half the GOP governors in favor of the stimulus, and the other half dead set against it.”
Yes, for the simple reason that these states are more broke than others.
Ca,. Fla, etc are all in need of just about anything they can get their hands on after democrat applied entitlements have run these states broke.
“You’ve got the conservative blogs and media personalities ranting about the danger that Obama poses while public perceptions of the GOP are in the toilet. ”
Obamas ratings have dropped consistantly since the signing of the stimulus, Wall street continues to plummet in record numbers since 98, consumer confidence is at an all time low.
“You’ve got (ostensibly) conservative commentators like David Brooks calling Bobby Jindall’s speech a disaster.”
Obamas administration being so transparent and ethical for the first time in history of the oppositin giving advanced transcripts did not give the GOP an advanced copy of Obamas address.
How the hell was Jinda supposed to put together anything better than what we heard ?
Wise up.
Obama;
For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. And all this we will do.
This all is very poetic. I dont the faintest idea of what he means by restoring science to its rightful place. Maybe he means it will distate every movement in our lies. Schmuck is so convinced that his metaphors will succeed that he is already making plans to give away Americas wealth to the world
“To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds.”
And then he criticized anybody who questions his plans for government expansion.
“Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions — who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans….
What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.”
What ? What the f*ck is that supposed to mean ?
Does this arrogant prick actually think that because he ” says so ” our arguments are not to be applied ?
“The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works ”
Yup, I was right, he said it specifically that we shouldnt b*tch if government gets too big and that should not be a argument.
Does anyone doubt hes saying that the solution to America’s problems is bigger government and that anybody who challenges that fact is a cynic idiot whose time has passed ? Good luck bub, enjoy your koolaid if you really believe that.
