bobby jindal, awesome.

Date February 25, 2009

i noticed this morning that a lot of talking heads, both d’s and r’s, are not impressed with bobby jindal’s speech last night in rebuttal to The One, the great orator. the full transcript and video are here. what are people talking about?

obama and his minions would diminish liberty and freedom and replace it with fear and uncertainty. it’s all about power and control for them. are hard times reason to hand over to our government what makes us great - the free market and the decisions we make for ourselves? the markets are in free fall everytime the agitating orator opens his mouth and we have given him the keys to our grandchildren’s inheritance. as rush says, obama has made our national symbol a bloated pig!

and now, in comes unassuming governor bobby jindal and his response to The One was exactly on point. he said:

Who amongst us would ask our children for a loan so we could spend money we do not have on things we do — we do not need? That is precisely what the Democrats in Congress just did. It’s irresponsible. And it’s no way to strengthen our economy, create jobs, or build a prosperous future for our children.

and he also did a terrific job at pointing out our fundamental differences:

In the end, it comes down to an honest and fundamental disagreement about the proper role of government. We oppose the national Democratic view that says the way to strengthen our country is to increase dependence on government. We believe the way to strengthen our country is to restrain spending in Washington, to empower individuals and small businesses to grow our economy and create jobs.

bobby jindal, one of the gop’s young turks, to me is the real deal as far as conservatism goes. he believes in america’s goodness and entrepreneurial spirit. he is more like reagan then obama’s stage crafters could ever imagine. his public service record of reforming his state’s decrepit health care system, fixing higher education, serving in congress, tackling entitlement reform, and managing natural emergencies is exemplary.

this is what i know: that obama’s speech, given before a room mostly filled with o’zombies, was intended to encourage us and remove from the public discourse his recent fear ‘crisis‘ tactics. it didn’t work because it was liberally peppered with all his messianic promises including curing cancer!

however, what did give me hope was the way bobby jindal, all alone and quietly before a camera, ended his speech:

We are Americans. And like my Dad said years ago, Americans can do anything.

can you see the difference? this is hope and change baby.

What it means, Kate, is that most of the public sees things differently than you. Most people thought Jindall’s ideas were tired and stale. Most people liked what they heard from President Obama.

That is what the pundits are talking about.

Wow - this guy is the new hope for the Repubs? Really?

The problem for Republicans is that all of their catchy phrases don’t amount to policy that works. And it’s all just hot air anyway - deficits skyrocketed when Bush & Repubs ran the show, now we’re supposed to believe your all about fiscal responsibility? What is your pitch to the American people, “Last time we were in power, we lost our way - but this time we really, really mean it! honest!”

Jindal in 2012? Obama should be so lucky! I’m predicting Obama 58 -41 in popular vote. Enjoy your time in the wilderness, conservatives…

Dade I appreciate your confidence, however your sanctimonius attitude is really so sad. There are 49 million people in this country who did not vote for Obama. And though your side may like him personally the majority of the entire country isn’t real hip to his policies and the guy has only been in office 1 month.

I know that the democrats like to promote themselves as the big tent party but everytime a person from ‘the big tent’ of the republicans becomes prominent, he is tokenized, minimized, and dismissed. (Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, Colin Powell — oh wait, he redeemed himself right?)

Bobby Jindal is a very good governor and has shown discipline as a spender in his state and when he was in congress. He is well respected among people in both major parties and if the world rocks around what talking heads say, we are all doomed.

Actually, the “most” Dale speaks of is a very small margin, dont forget, most are still skeptical of the stimulus plan, no matter how eloquent he sounded.

“Most people liked what they heard from President Obama.”

So what ? That just means they’re all too dumb to read between the lines.

There was nothing in his speech that pointed out how consumers are maxed out and cant pay for any more trade deficits.
Had he brought that up along with the fact that less than 30% of his bill actually addresses the economy his Obamabots would of actually had something to think about besides how soon they can get something for nothing. Wouldnt want go that way, would they ? I can just see their little heads start to ooze pus from the strain.

Almost the whole shpeel was saying that our problems will be solved simply through green crap, which you guys eat constantly, bigger government holding your soft little hands and infrastructure projects.
If “The One” said he was going to round up critics of the stimulus plan and stick em all in Gitmo his moonbats would have cheered while peeing themselves with joy and Chris Matthews probably would of had another tingle in his leg, possibly the third one. China and Russia must be laughing their FAO right now.

Good luck with that ole tired worn out line.
Obama promised to cut the deficit in half by 2013 which he conveniently didnt mention this in the speech
So far hes increased the deficit by 30% in only one month since he took office, not EIGHT YEARS WHILE FIGHTING TWO WARS! YOU MORON!!!

It works both ways David. For years we heard Pelosi and Reid rail about the “debt our children will have!!” Yet in barely a month’s time they have effectively doubled the debt. Where is their concern for our childrens future now?

“What is your pitch to the American people, “Last time we were in power, we lost our way - but this time we really, really mean it! honest!””

More like, “We lost sight of our message and became too much like the democrats.”

“Enjoy your time in the wilderness, conservatives…”

Yeah, I’m sure you guys were saying that after Carter won. Then after 1980 we saw Republicans rule the white house for 20 of the next 28 years.

Keep patting yourself on the back…..please.

    David Jahns you said this

“deficits skyrocketed when Bush & Repubs ran the show” Let me say your people have had the congress for the last 2 years and didn’t do squat. Secondly did you know that you buddy Obambi has tripled the deficit and he has only been in office for 1 month? Can you explain that? Thought not.

  8. History Chasers said:

Apparently Pelosi and Reid are OK with debt our grandchildren and great grandchildren will have.

I hope I live to see the day they are out on their keesters. And hopefully being pelted with rotten vegetables. Or in stocks. Or both.

    OH PLEEEEEZE

Lets talk the forbidden. Bobby Jindal and his ethnicity. The Republicans are like a company selling a beverage no one likes and instead of reformulating policies, decide to change the package color and logo.

So in 2008, they decided that being a woman was the right package to sell their neo-con product. After the Obama win, they quickly updated their market research and concluded that America wants an ethnic looking leader. I can imagine the strategy session – Okay, how do we top a good looking, smooth talking Hawaiian born President with a Kenyan father? How about a first generation Indian immigrant who goes by the name of the common man, “Bobby,” and who sounds a lot like a good ol’ boy for damn sure. That’s the winning ticket!!!!!

Except for one thing. He was a failure. He bombed and everyone today is talking about it.

How come no one in here has mentioned how Jindal was speaking to everyone in America-land last night. He spoke condescendingly and with a retarded, cringe-inducing childlike tone because your party got its ass kicked last November. The GOP and you people are obviously brimming with resentment and bitterness toward the American people. You cannot help this I suppose.

  12. Ken said:

    “Bobby Jindal and his ethnicity.”

LOL!!!! Are you kidding me? You honestly think Obama would be in the White House if he were white?!?! You couldn’t wait to put an African-American in front of the cameras and it had nothing to do with his policies.

“So in 2008, they decided that being a woman was the right package to sell their neo-con product.”

I see. So, when the democrats do it, its because they truly wish to represent all the races and sexes of the world, but when Republicans do it they’re trying to “sell their product”. Oh Jared, you’re truly in rare form today. Funny stuff!!!

“How about a first generation Indian immigrant who goes by the name of the common man, “Bobby,” and who sounds a lot like a good ol’ boy for damn sure. That’s the winning ticket!!!!!”

More likely it was “How did America vote for a neo-socialist who has effectively tripled our deficit in a couple of months and placed morons even dumber than he is in important positions?”

“He bombed and everyone today is talking about it.”

Well, I think people liked his substance but not his style. As opposed to Obama, who is all style and no substance.

hey dade! well i disagree in that i think his delivery of the speech was not the best but his ideas were solid and not stale. i think he’s just fab.

‘deficits skyrocketed when Bush & Repubs ran the show, now we’re supposed to believe your all about fiscal responsibility?’

welcome to the blog david. actually you can’t possibly be serious when you consider the amount of $ that obama has just spent in the last month. it is spending that can hardly be fathomed — have you looked at the pork vs real stimulus in the bill?? and actually there are many of us who ARE all about fiscal responsibility.

hey there history chasers. good to see you again. :)

‘I can imagine the strategy session – Okay, how do we top a good looking, smooth talking Hawaiian born President with a Kenyan father? jared you are such a calculating racist.

asia you need a nap baby.

A slight disagreement with some of my fellow liberals on this thread. I don’t think the Republican’s problem is packaging (as in finding a person of color to “compete” with Barack) I think their problem is message. Until you update your message to a practical, liveable, way of running the country, you will never win another national election. The average American just doesn’t trust Republicans because of the lies of Bush/Cheney. Good Day.

  15. Rope said:

Please if all you can worry about is how one delivers a speech, you need to get a life. Although he’s not the bulls____er oops speaker the Big O is, its what he said not how he said it.

And the spending continues. Lets see $410 billion today which includes 8700 earmarks with a dozen of these going to PMA, who by the way is under federal investigation for corruption. And my personal favorite, a tattoo removal violence outreach program in Los Angeles.

If you can’t dazzle them with brillance, baffle them with bullsh-t.

“Until you update your message to a practical, liveable, way of running the country, you will never win another national election.”

Have to agree with you on that part, Tom. The message is not getting out with a united party behind it. At least, not yet.

“The average American just doesn’t trust Republicans because of the lies of Bush/Cheney.”

Have to disagree with you on this one. Not sure what lies you’re talking about. Obama seems to be racking up some doozies of his own, though, so if that’s why the Republicans lost, the democrats reign won’t last very long.

Jindal’s speech sounded wrong to everyone on the planet, because his thinking was wrong. It’s jumbled, incoherent, loaded with talking points, and utterly devoid of a framework that either resembles reality or comes across as reflecting reality to the American voter. He sounded confused most of the time.

It’s not the presence/absence of “smart words” vocabulary; it’s the appropriate use of words for clarity. He sounded as clear as MUD. Moreover, syntactically Obama’s speeches are loaded with parallelisms, careful constructions, and pivots that clarify, contrast, and enlighten. All of these were absent from Jindal’s speech. He sounded like he had just gotten off of Marina’s Hot for Words site.

Finally, Jindal sounded like he was addressing small children in his caddence, because the Republican mindset is that Americans are small children to be manipulated and controlled. The hidden superiority that GOP politicians have, just leaked through and it was pathetic. This of course is similar to what happens here form some of the elitist rightwingers on this blog.

Oh, by the way, its been at least two weeks and your punk ass still hasnt taken me up on my offer to a real debate.
You’re just a punk little bitch who likes to argue and get yer ya yas off tossing troll turds.
You probably dont even give a shit about your country or anyone but yourself.
It seems more and more each day like you just do this to itch some juvenile need to overcome some shortcomings I wont mention for fear that you’ll run in the head drop your pants and look in the mirror.

Ya know, even when I was a frickin moonbat in the 60s I would of told you to sit down and shut up.
I know what its like to be a liberal and have friends who are liberals, now distant.
You’re an embarssment to what was once a viable addition to our country.
There are no democrats anymore like Roosevelt who actually knew an enemy when he saw one and Truman for blowin the crap out of em.

Give yourself an ounce of dignity and sit down and shut the f*ck up already
