i try very hard to leave most of michelle obama’s fashion faux pas for some other blogger to cover. however upon occasion, sometimes i just can’t help myself. and mo at last night’s state dinner for india’s pm did not disappoint. she needs a crash course in ‘first lady fashion 101′ stat!

the designer of michelle obama’s state dinner dress was naeem khan, an indian/american. and of course many in the mainstream media and throughout obamaland believe she looked lovely.
in and of itself, its a nice dress - for the right person. but on mo it looks like curtains, kind of cheap, heavy ones. and those earrings and bracelets? a bit halloween gypsy costume-y. her overall look is very harsh, hard.
is this too unkind? look, they live there on we-the-people’s dime. you and i pay for michelle to have what she needs to look good when the obamas are representing us. i don’t care what she looks like when its down time and she’s walking bo (the dog, not the husband) but i have to ask myself, with all the resources at her fingertips, why does she do this? where is the classic, the chic, the sophiticated elegance-yet-oh-so-slightly-sexy-feminine look?
is there no one in the wh inner circle who will talk truth to the real power there?

I don’t mind the dress except it seems more Hollywood instead of White House. MO just doesn’t have class or style so everything she wears looks wrong somehow. She also doesn’t carry herself well…look at every photo…she is out of place and couldn’t care less. She does have a pretty smile but damn if those wicked eyebrows don’t spoil it.

actually michelle looks better here than i have ever seen her
she appears to have lost a lot of weight off her butt
and dropped several dress sizes
she does not look ten times bigger than her husband
however, i think she should have skipped the blue turban, it really does not go with her black suit

MAYBE it’s true that strapless is a bit ‘much’ for a state dinner, perhaps. MAYBE the dress COULD be considered a little ‘grandma like’, maybe. But she looks fine and looks as though she THOUGHT about what to wear and looks pretty good in it.
Honestly I think that judging what the F.L. wears is an OK ’side game’ but shouldn’t be done with angst or vitriol. And surely shouldn’t be done in any effort to demean the F.L. She’s a person (and an American) just like the rest of us and deserves appropriate respect as such. …now, her advocacy, postitions or behavior - that is what is really worthy of evaluation and criticism, possibly.

Besides Jackie and Laura Bush weve had some pretty “not much to look at” first ladies. Michelle is not ugly, I like to poke fun at her because I dont like her. My skin crawls and my gag reflex quivers when she speaks because I can just feel the contempt she has for our country oozing in her words no matter how benign they might seem.
Shes not ugly but gosh darnit shes also not the raving beauty the psycho groupie Obamabots make her out to be.

It’s nice the dress was designed by an Indian person and made by Indians. But why were they not culturally aware of the occasion and the need for modesty of not baring shoulders and upper arms (as well as upper torso) so as not to offend the Indian dignitaries? Yes, I know this was in the USA, so perhaps those rules shouldn’t apply. Yet, we are supposed to be culturally sensitive, right?
