healthcare hell week
March 15, 2010
it’s here. the week obamacare will be either the law of the land or dead. in the middle of the night, the dems released their ’shell’ bill; actually a framework, phantom, or dummy bill that once passed, will be stripped and backfilled with all their shady deals, payoffs, and promises. here is a wee bit from philip klein at the american spectator who explains:
Shortly before midnight on Sunday, Democrats released a 2,309 page health care bill that will start the process of reconciliation — but don’t let that fool you, it’s not the actual reconciliation bill with all the changes you’ve been reading about. Instead, as Rep. Paul Ryan, the ranking Republican member on the Budget Committee, explained to me last week, this is just the “shell” bill — the vehicle that Democrats need to get moving on health care. Once the bill gets approved (likely Monday), Democrats will send this phantom bill over to the Rules Committee, where it will be stripped, and then they’ll insert in all of the actual changes that they’ve negotiated.
rep. paul ryan, one of the point people for the (R)’s says:
Despite claims of transparency and calls for a “simple up-or-down vote,” there is nothing simple about this process. This convoluted legislative charade demonstrates how far the Democratic majority has wandered from real health-care reform and cost control, employing any means to achieve political victory.
make no mistake, this isn’t like any other bill passed. this is huge and will change our lives and generations after us for the worse. our collective hair should now be on fire over this.
patriots it’s the time to fight. obama says ‘it’s time to end the talking’ so republican lawmakers? be bold! get out there in front of the cameras and call for the vote! shame pressure the dems on this. ’standing on the door of history’ as pelosi says? open the door and lets see if they dare go in.
also, michelle malkin has a good ‘to do list’ so go here. and please call your representative. write. fax. pray. repeat. this bill must die a painful death.
_____
update: i saw this quote and loved it.
“Obamacare is not going to increase choice. It’s going to provide the kind of regulation that will turn private insurance companies into the equivalent of government-regulated utilities. Look at your electricity bill and figure out how much choice you get with that.” -Mark Steyn
_____
update 2: the house budget committee has voted 21-16 to advance obamacare, clearing the way for the house to vote on the measure later this week. the house rules committee is expected to meet to draft ‘new language’ for obamacare.
there were 2 dems who voted with all 14 republicans to reject the democrats’ effort to proceed. they were chet edwards of tx and allen boyd of fl. btw, they both voted against obamacare last fall too.
______
update 3: go to the gop’s code red website to find updated information on the undecided representatives and please call them!
_____
update 4: i found this on the word ‘deem’ which of course is at the center of the slaughter solution.
“If I were advising somebody,” on whether deem and pass would run into constitutional trouble, “I would say to them, ‘Don’t do it,’” said Alan Morrison, a professor at the George Washington University Law School who has litigated similar issues before the Supreme Court on behalf of the watchdog organization Public Citizen. “What does ‘deem’ mean? In class I always say it means ‘let’s pretend.’ ‘Deems’ means it’s not true.”…
un-stinking-believable.

Vlad Lenin would be proud! This is a major step in controlling the masses!
Damn the Constitution, full speed ahead!!!
I’m still waiting for someone who actually likes this bill to tell me why EVERYONE’S health care needs to be reformed. If this is just to “help the uninsured” like the dems keep whining about, why must health care change for everyone?
Anyone? Scarlett? Pennie? Jane? Care to answer that one?
March 15th, 2010 at 11:42 am
All aspects of President Obama’s Chicago-style tactics are proudly on display as he (along with Princess Pelosi and Harry Death-Warmed_Over Reid) cajoles, bullies, and bribes the House to pass his health care proposals despite the overwhelming public rejection. To some he offers bribes, payoffs, and promises. To those who will be defeated because of their vote, he offers lobbyist jobs or cushy appointments. This is not Obama’s Waterloo, this is our country’s.
March 15th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Boy, you nuts on the right are really afraid of this whole health insurance reform stuff. Obama must be doing something right.
March 15th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
LMAO Slacker! Yes this group sees a socialist behind every corner and believe that our President is actually a Manchurian candidate promoted by Islamic subversives, Bill Ayers, and Rev. Wright!
The bill will pass people. The good news is it seems it will be a framework to build on which eventually will give us that robust public option so many of us have wanted. Ken the system needs to be evened out thats why we need healthcare reform. Now be good children and go outside and play for a while.
March 15th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
“…and believe that our President is actually a Manchurian candidate promoted by Islamic subversives, Bill Ayers, and Rev. Wright!”
You’ve pretty much got that right, Pennie. Now be good and go outside and play in traffic for a while.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Well, Slacker and Pennie (Is there a difference?), let me ask you this. What is a socialist society? What functions do the government perform in a socialist society and please give me an example of a socialist society. You people run your mouths more than anybody on the planet, yet you say nothing. So here’s your chance (again).
“Ken the system needs to be evened out thats why we need healthcare reform.”
Ah, I see. So you acknowledge that this bill will bring down the level of health care for some. And somehow on your planet that is a good thing? You don’t know what’s in the bill, you don’t know what it will do, you don’t know how to pay for it, yet you support it. Truly, rocks have taken the number two spot to democrats for the dumbest things on the planets, congratulations!
You still can’t explain why MY health care needs to be altered at all, can you? You’re too stupid, too uninformed, and worse yet, you don’t care. Obama and the dems have spoon fed you talking points and mantra and you regurgitate it like the good little zombies you are. Is it that difficult to think for yourself?
Apparently so.
“Now be good children and go outside and play for a while.”
Be a good little sheep and go wander aimlessly in the fields for a while. You seem to be quite comfortable there.
March 15th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
…the system needs to be evened out …
Why? I pay my insurance premiums thru my employer. This healthcare sham will make my premiums go up to provide that blessed public option that you go on about. Since there really isn’t a need for that option as everyone in this country legally has access to healthcare thru all sorts of state-provided plans…
Please tell me why I need to pay for people who opt out of health insurance because they don’t want it.
March 15th, 2010 at 6:43 pm
“You still can’t explain why MY health care needs to be altered at all, can you?”
How, exactly, do you think your health care will be altered? Please provide examples with links to the bill (it is available online.)
“Ah, I see. So you acknowledge that this bill will bring down the level of health care for some. ”
Umm…wrong. There is no such acknowledgement that the bill would “bring down the level of care”…the phrase, “evened out” can mean many things, just not the thing you think it does. But just for kicks, please cite the ways in which the level of your health care would be brought down, providing explicit references to the bill, which is available online and easily linked to.
“This healthcare sham will make my premiums go up to provide that blessed public option that you go on about.”
Umm…no, there is no public option in the health care bill. Nice try, though.
“there really isn’t a need for that option as everyone in this country legally has access to healthcare thru all sorts of state-provided plans…”
Umm…nope, wrong again. Please cite your references, showing data from ANY source that says everyone in this country has access to medical services despite inability to pay. I assure you, there are many, many people who cannot afford health care, even if you think they have a “legal” right to it. What good is a legal right to something you cannot afford to purchase?
“You don’t know what’s in the bill, you don’t know what it will do, you don’t know how to pay for it, yet you support it. ”
I think it is clear that you are the one who doesn’t know what’s in this bill…that much is evident from your posts.
March 15th, 2010 at 7:03 pm
Sorry Slacker, but you didn’t answer my questions, you just gave me more questions. I take it you have read the over 2,000 page health bill? Good for you.
I will, unlike you, answer those questions. Let’s begin, shall we?
“How, exactly, do you think your health care will be altered? Please provide examples with links to the bill (it is available online.)”
http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2009-12-27/news/bal-op.senatebill27dec27_1_health-care-health-insurance-rolls-private-insurance
“This public-private plan would have a disproportionate share of participants with expensive pre-existing conditions and chronic problems. Although it would have slightly lower administrative costs than the likes of Aetna or Humana, this adverse selection of clients would compel it to provide inferior service and curtailed benefits - unless the federal government empowered this nonprofit to force doctors, hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical device companies to accept significantly lower reimbursements than they do from most private insurers. Inferior patient care is the more likely outcome.”
Only a complete fool can believe that government takeover of health care would provide better service. However, I’m more than willing to look at YOUR evidence, Slacker.
“Umm…wrong. There is no such acknowledgement that the bill would “bring down the level of care”…the phrase, “evened out” can mean many things, just not the thing you think it does.”
Please see my above comment and link and while we’re at it, since you have obviously read the bill, please tell us all how it will NOT bring down quality. Also, you said the phrase “evened out” doesn’t mean the thing I think it does. Ok, what does it mean in relation to health care? Thanks.
“Umm…no, there is no public option in the health care bill. Nice try, though.”
Of course not, Slacker, but anybody with half a brain knows that they will add all of the things they had to strip at a later date. Grow up.
“Please cite your references, showing data from ANY source that says everyone in this country has access to medical services despite inability to pay.”
How about President Obama? He recently told the heartwrenching tale of Natoma Canfield and how she had to drop her expensive health care insurance. She then developed cancer and Obama the liar declared “I’m here because of Natoma.” What’s the problem? He lied. Canfield is receiving care for her cancer and she qualifies for financial aid:
http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/03/it-figures-obamas-rally-prop-natoma-canfield-is-getting-financial-aid-is-patient-at-top-us-cancer-center-wont-lose-home/
“Natoma Canfield, the cancer-stricken woman who has become a centerpiece of President Obama’s push for health care reform, will not lose her home over her medical bills and will probably qualify for financial aid, a top official at the Cleveland medical center treating her told FoxNews.com.”
So regardless of how the left likes to portray hospital throwing people out on their butts when they don’t have insurance, it doesn’t happen. Welcome to the real world, Slacker.
“I think it is clear that you are the one who doesn’t know what’s in this bill…that much is evident from your posts.”
As clear as mud, Slacker. You didn’t answer a single question I put to you, you just turned it around and demanded to know what I knew about it. Your propaganda won’t work here, try Daily Kos or Huffington Post, they seem to be at about your level. Unless of course, YOU can answer my questions with references of your own.
Since you read the bill and everything. Oh, I almost forgot, HOW are we going to pay for this $1 trillion disaster again????
March 15th, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Let’s not forget about this big Dick……Durbin that is!!!
http://www.varight.com/?p=4442
“SEN. DICK DURBIN (D-IL): “Anyone Who Would Stand Before You And Say Well, If You Pass Health Care Reform, Next Year’s Health Care Premiums Are Going Down, I Don’t Think Is Telling The Truth. I Think It Is Likely They Would Go Up, But What We’re Trying To Do Is Slow The Rate Of Increase.” (Sen. Durbin, Floor Remarks, 3/10/10)”
So is Dick lying, Slacker, or is he part of the vast right wing conspiracy!!!!!
March 15th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Funny thing…you still have not cited any text from the bill…only right wing articles that support your talking points. Please, if you could, cite the specific language in the bill that will do all the terrible things you assert.
“So regardless of how the left likes to portray hospital throwing people out on their butts when they don’t have insurance, it doesn’t happen.”
Such a terrible mistake in any debate, to take the experience of one person and draw generalities. Just because this one person, or even thousands of people like her, gets financial aid for her medical bills (conveniently enough, after her plight is highlighted in national media) does not mean that “it doesn’t happen.” Get real and learn to read things other than your favorite right wind news sites.
As for Durbin’s quote, yes indeed, premiums will go up. The question is, will it go up more or less than if the bill didn’t pass. And not just next year, but for the foreseeable future. The health care reform proposal is aimed at addressing long-term problems…the rate of premium increases currently taking place is unsustainable, even according to the GOP. The GOP’s position is to let it be…let it keep getting more and more expensive to purchase health insurance.
Nice try, though.

“Look at your electricity bill and figure out how much choice you get with that.” -Mark Steyn
at least the electric company does not force you to keep your lights on all day and provide electricity for your neighbors
March 16th, 2010 at 5:42 am
“Funny thing…you still have not cited any text from the bill…only right wing articles that support your talking points.”
LOL!! So let me get this straight. An article that documents how a DEMOCRAT asks the Congressional Budget Office to research how health costs are going to increase under this bill is a “right wing article”. You’re pretty pathetic, Slacker, but that’s nothing new. You obviously didn’t even read the articles because they don’t fit into your narrow little view.
“Please, if you could, cite the specific language in the bill that will do all the terrible things you assert.”
Sorry, I don’t have the time to read a 2,300 page bill and judging by the idiot democrats who keep jamming their foots in their mouths, they haven’t either. Have you demanded to know if they have read it? You know, the people who are actually voting on it???? I’m STILL waiting on you to cite something from the bill that would counter ANY of my arguments, but you can’t. You’ve drank too much kool aid and are unable to think for yourself.
“Such a terrible mistake in any debate, to take the experience of one person and draw generalities.”
Perhaps then you should speak to your Messiah Obama, because that is exactly what he was doing with this woman. You’re not too bright, are you?
“Get real and learn to read things other than your favorite right wind news sites.”
That means alot coming from you, Slacker. You havent cited a single source, you just spit out the talking points that you have been fed. You can’t counter anything I’ve posted you just dismiss it as “right wing” rhetoric. Standard operating procedures of the dems. You cant argue facts, because you dont have any.
“As for Durbin’s quote, yes indeed, premiums will go up.”
I thought you said it wouldn’t affect my health care. Make up your mind, slick.
“The health care reform proposal is aimed at addressing long-term problems…the rate of premium increases currently taking place is unsustainable, even according to the GOP.”
Really? Perhaps YOU can quote from the bill on how it is going to addrees such long term problems. Come on, Slacker, dazzle us all with your knowledge of the bill.
You’re pathetic attempt to argue your non-existent points is quite humorous. You cite no articles, no langauage from the bill (because you don’t know whats in it), and you dismiss everyone who disagrees with you as “right wing”.
What color is the sky in your world?
March 16th, 2010 at 5:43 am
“at least the electric company does not force you to keep your lights on all day and provide electricity for your neighbors”
Not yet, at least. Don’t give them any ideas, lisa!!!!!
March 16th, 2010 at 8:10 am
Ken & lisab,
I don’t want to alarm you but aren’t the progressives talking about having “smart meters” or “smart thermostats”, etc. installed in people’s homes so that the power company can ‘monitor’ what power you’re using? How much power and when your personal peak times are, etc.?
After they do that, I understand, there will follow a protocol where they may be able to control your intake.
March 16th, 2010 at 8:38 am
“An article that documents how a DEMOCRAT asks the Congressional Budget Office to research how health costs are going to increase under this bill is a “right wing article”. You’re pretty pathetic, Slacker.”
The article I referred to as “right wing” was the first you cited, and it began with this line:
“Senate Democrats have managed a compromise on a health care bill that is a fraud on the American public, which is increasingly leery about a government-run health care option.”
If you cannot understand the difference between objective journalism and right wing rhetoric, here’s s tip…it doesn’t make such sweeping judgements as calling a piece of legislation a “fraud on the American public.” And if you don’t understand why I considered it a “right wing” article, here’s another tip…left wingers would not call it that.
“I’m STILL waiting on you to cite something from the bill that would counter ANY of my arguments.”
It is logically impossible to prove a negative. You assert that the legislation will do X, Y and Z…yet you cannot cite any language in the bill that proves your assertions…without seeing the language that you use as your proof or evidence, I cannot refute it, although that is less a failure of mine than it is of yours for being completely unable to find even the slightest bit of text from a 2,000 page bill that would prove your case.
Nice try, though.
March 16th, 2010 at 8:59 am
“If you cannot understand the difference between objective journalism and right wing rhetoric, here’s s tip…it doesn’t make such sweeping judgements as calling a piece of legislation a “fraud on the American public.” ”
I guess if the truth is something that you find “righ twing rhetoric” then so be it. As of this moment you STILL haven’t cited a single source that documents why and how this health care bill is going to be beneficial. You spit out tired mantra and talking points AGAIN. Its quite obvious you haven’t read the bill, but even better you can’t find a single source that documents how this bill is going to help people. Why is that, Slacker?
“It is logically impossible to prove a negative.”
I’m not asking you to prove a negative. I’m asking you, since you’ve read the bill, to cite it and tell me how its going to work. I’m trying to make it the simplest terms possible so you can understand. You haven’t answered any of my questions, although I have answered all of yourse. All you do is ask more questions.
So now it’s your turn, Slacker. You’ve refused to address some of my points, no surprise there. So please tell everyone how this bill is going to help people. Please don’t come back with “It will help insure those who dont have it.” That’s tired old garbage. Give me some specifics Slacker. Please don’t forget to mention how we’re going to pay for this $1 trillion tab, something you still haven’t done. Come on, you can do it!
“Nice try, though.”
There’s no “try” about it. You have shown your ignorance and complete refusal to address the points. It’s been quite fun exposing you for the spoon fed, kool aid drinking, zombie that you are.
March 16th, 2010 at 9:36 am
Here’s some more for you, Slacker:
http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=506199
“Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted, a new IBD/TIPP Poll has found.”
“It also calls into question whether an overhaul is even doable; 72% of the doctors polled disagree with the administration’s claim that the government can cover 47 million more people with better-quality care at lower cost.”
Ahhh, what do those doctors know anyway, right Slacker? They must be right wingers, right?
http://docs4patientcare.org/_blog/Resources/post/Grim_Prognosis_From_Doctors_Opposed_To_CURRENT_HCR_Bills/
“As reported Wednesday, 65% of the 1,376 practicing physicians who responded to a mailed questionnaire over the last two weeks said they opposed health care plans that have emerged from the administration and Congress. Just 33% supported them.”
“No government ‘option’ or government-run program should be allowed,” said another doctor. “It would ultimately lead to total government takeover of health care, with high costs and low quality.”
“Others pointed to the troubles with government-run Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, which are all verging on insolvency and now account for an estimated $51 trillion in unfunded liabilities over the next half-century.”
“Government health care will wipe out the private insurance companies,” said another. “Most of the doctors in private practice will give up … because of a low reimbursement from the government. The Medicare, Medicaid program is a good example of government-run health care.”
“I trained and worked in Canada prior to coming to the U.S.,” went one typical letter. “The same arguments were used in Canada to launch ‘universal health care.’ It is anything but universal and free.”
But you, and Obama, know better, right Slacker?
March 16th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
“But you, and Obama, know better, right Slacker?”
Yes. Thanks for putting it so succinctly.
March 16th, 2010 at 12:18 pm
“Boy, you nuts on the right are really afraid of this whole health insurance reform stuff. Obama must be doing something right.”
weak, weak, weak…
BTW, if someone stuck a spike in my eye or threatened to do so and I was “really afraid” of it - wouldn’t that make sense??
We conservatives & believers in freedom shrink back from power grabs & enslavement legislation like this because it MAKES SENSE to do so.
BTW, all of the gymnastics that this legislation has brought out is a BIG sign that this is bad legislation.
I suggest that THIS legislation be tabled; and that the matter of health care reform be taken up with a cleaner, finer, OPEN AND TRANSPARENT eye toward reforming health care treatments and/or insurance and/or coverage - wherever the problems are in need of addressing.
March 16th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
“We conservatives & believers in freedom shrink back from power grabs & enslavement legislation like this because it MAKES SENSE to do so.”
I certainly hope it enslaves you. You need enslavement.
March 16th, 2010 at 1:30 pm
“Yes. Thanks for putting it so succinctly.”
A brilliant rebuttal to all of my points. Once again, Slacker, you don’t disappoint. You’re quite the typical wingnut.
“I certainly hope it enslaves you. You need enslavement.”
Don’t count on it, champ.
March 16th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
It is a shame, Ken, that you can’t walk in another person’s shoes…you might learn something.
March 16th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
“It is a shame, Ken, that you can’t walk in another person’s shoes…you might learn something.”
The same could be said of you, slacker, but then again it seems you already know everything, huh?
March 16th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
And personally, I can’t wait for Rush to run off to Costa Rica once the bill passes. Too bad the rest of you won’t be joining him.
March 16th, 2010 at 1:40 pm
“but then again it seems you already know everything, huh?”
Yep. Thanks for pointing that out.
March 16th, 2010 at 1:42 pm
“Too bad the rest of you won’t be joining him.”
That’s right, we’ll be here to take our country back. Sorry to disappoint you.
“Yep. Thanks for pointing that out.”
Very mature.
March 16th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Well as the testosterone on the blog devolves the conversation, we still have HCR to get passed. I want to just say that your Geritol lackeys can shout “Kill the Bill” all you want but it falls on deaf ears. It will pass. So wouldn’t it be better if all your old fat white people were told to come in from the tea parties and relax a bit? It couldn’t possibly be good for their health.
March 16th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
scarlett it won’t pass without the votes. and right now it doesn’t have them. of course should the dems choose to violate the constitution, causing a crisis i might add, by using the slaughter solution, it will be challenged and SCOTUS will pick it up because of the constitutional value.
and scarlett… in the middle of all of that the democratic party and all of you loons will be completely and utterly thrown unceremoniously out of power.
March 16th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
“Well as the testosterone on the blog devolves the conversation, we still have HCR to get passed.”
Translation: Much like the dems in Congress, I don’t want to hear opposing viewpoints.
“I want to just say that your Geritol lackeys can shout “Kill the Bill” all you want but it falls on deaf ears.”
Translation: We know that the MAJORITY of Americans don’t want this bill, but we don’t care.
“So wouldn’t it be better if all your old fat white people were told to come in from the tea parties and relax a bit?”
Translation: So we violated the Constitution and the law, who cares? It’s what WE want.
